AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
 
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa. 
 
The ARC-Vegetable and Ornamental Plants (ARC-VOP) seeks to appoint a highly experienced and dynamic person to the following position in Roodeplaat (Pretoria): 
 
FARM MANAGER
 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
 To ensure that the ARC research farm is managed effectively and efficiently; 
 To ensure that all farm practices are timeous and correctly executed to ensure optimal and/or success of research projects; 
 To ensure optimal client satisfaction; 
 To optimise the utilisation of employees working in the farm in the most cost effective and efficient manner; 
 To ensure the work executed on the farm aligns with the objectives, deliverables and targets set for the facilities team to achieve and to ensure alignment with strategic matters of the ARC; 
 To utilise and maintain facilities, apparatus and equipment in such a manner that optimal life-span is ensured and that the farm can deliver key farm management aspects and ensure the farm is well maintained and ensure support to the research function; 
 To ensure that production is managed in a cost-effective and pro-active manner and that it con-tributes to core business at all times; 
 Maintenance of heavy machinery, farm equipment and other equipment such as tractors, front-end diggers, ploughs, and all equipment used by the farm to ensure their work is done; 
 To use tools and equipment in a cost-effective manner; 
 To comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations; 
 Effectively manage the budget in line with the PFMA guidelines; 
 Effectively manage the farm in compliance to applicable legislation to farm management; 
 Management of staff; 
 Performance management. 
 
Requirements:
 National Diploma in Agriculture or related field with 5 years’ experience in Agriculture; 
 Proven track record of farm management and/or technical expertise related to farm management; 
 Good communication skills; 
 Proven experience in financial and personnel management; 
 Proven track record and experience in networking with stakeholders; 
 Proven leadership and mentoring skills; 
 Computer literacy; 
 Valid driver’s license.

A competitive remuneration package will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities and the stature of the position. The appointment will be subject to a six (6) month probation period and a positive security clearance.
