AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
 
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and fosters innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research campuses and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa. 
 
The ARC-Natural Resources and Engineering (ARC-NRE) seeks to appoint a highly, experienced and dynamic person to the following position in Arcadia, Pretoria: 
 
CHIEF RESEARCH TECHNICIAN: ANALYTICAL SOIL CHEMISTRY 

 
Key Performance Areas: 
 Carry out and supervise a range of soil analytical determinations, 
 Compile analytical reports for clients, 
 Help to grow the Analytical Services unit, 
 Provide relevant soil chemical inputs to research projects and related activities, 
 Monitoring and evaluation of analytical processes, and maintenance of scientific quality standards, 
 Acquisition and maintenance of research and analytical equipment, computers, peripherals and specialised software, 
 Mentoring and training young technicians/students/interns and discharging duties in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural analytical team. 
 
Requirements: 
 BSc or MSc in Soil Science specialising in Soil Chemistry OR National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry, 
 Ten (10) years’ relevant experience in a soil or related laboratory environment, 
 Knowledge of a wide range of analytical instrumentation, including ICP-MS and ICP-OES, 
 Experience of supervising and managing within the soil analytical or soil research environment, 
 Experience of SANAS accreditation procedures would be an advantage.
