Job description
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

Contribute to the innovation outputs (i.e. technologies, prototypes, products, and patents) of the Division.
Conduct technology and product development for application in health, sensors and wastewater treatment. The tasks include (but not limited to) reaction process designing and engineering, scaling-up, techno economic evaluations, prototype designing and validation processes.
Plan methodology, equipment, material requirements and implement laboratory operations for the purpose of developing products and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards.
Analyse the root cause of a wide variety of failures related to issues arising in product development and validation processes.
Identify inefficiencies in scale-up of processes, develop and implement process and product improvement measures.
Review new product plans and make recommendations for material selection based on design objectives.
Engage with industry and identify needs of clients, assist in identifying opportunities for technology development and commercialization.
Supervise and co-ordinate the activities of subordinate staff, to ensure that service of a high standard is rendered at full cost recovery.
Provide technical and practical guidance in the execution of experiments.
Must stay up to date and informed at an expert technical level with technology and business in the areas of the Division’s work.
Ensure continuous growth and the provision of specialised training of junior staff to ensure that the professional skills are acquired to develop, deliver and support advanced water treatment products and technologies.
Ensure that SHEQ procedures are strictly adhered to and that project work is executed with maximum overall technical efficiency.

Minimum requirements
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

5 years' experience in research and development of chemical process engineering is a requirement.
At least 3 years’ experience in materials synthesis, chemical process design and product development.
Systems thinking approach, design thinking and incorporating sustainability elements in product and process development
Willingness to study, grow and be an expert in the field.
Team player who enjoys variation in tasks and has a passion for chemical processing.
An affinity for planning and conducting new and innovative projects is essential.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have completed a B.Eng degree in Chemical engineering.
Must possess an MSC/M.Eng degree in Chemical engineering.

Opportunity
The objectives of the Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Programme are to augment existing research capacity, build new areas of competence, and expand local and global research networks by:

· Advancement and fulfilment of research goals;

The Mining and Mineral Economics group is currently collaborating with other technical divisions internally within Mintek on various key priority areas and technology developments. Such technology developments require techno-economic, environmental impact and sustainability assessments, to identify preferred technology options as well as the required improvements in technological processes for industrial implementation.

Focus areas:
Possible research areas include (but not limited to):
· Focus on market research and trend analysis in mineral economics and economic modelling.
· econometrics, techno-economics
· financial modelling & valuation
· Technological forecasting

Key responsibilities:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the direction of a senior researcher and is expected to carry out the following responsibilities:

Independently working on developing techno-economic models for a range of process technologies.
Provide technical support to other researchers in the group working on similar projects
Critical evaluation of existing technologies, and proposals for technical development to improve these.
The publication of research outputs from current and previous projects
Development of new areas of research within the research group.
Writing new funding proposals to sustain research activities
Taking a leading role in organising and promoting seminars and workshops in relation to these projects (including communication, logistics, web content etc.)
Writing peer review publications and preparing competitive grant applications
Actively contributing to research seminars and workshops, as well as the broader research activities.
Willingness to coach and mentor next generation of researchers

Qualifications
A PhD in Economics/Mining/techno-economics, and LCA assessments or social science or mining related studies

Job description
KEY PERFOMANCE AREAS:

Assume the responsibility of Leader on selected MPD’s bench scale tests and pilot plant campaigns.
Assist with the construction, commissioning and operation of pilot plants and laboratory test equipment of either Flotation or Comminution Group.
Conduct laboratory experiments and participate in the execution of pilot plants.
Assist chief investigators to meet the technical objectives of projects and contribute to technical problem solving.
Train contract workers and operators in the safe and correct use of equipment and in the execution of laboratory and pilot plant-procedures.
Independently manage unit operations that form part of larger projects. This include planning, staffing, operation, quality control and reporting on those unit operations.
Perform basic calculations related to the execution of laboratory experiments and pilot plant operations.

Introduction
Mintek is seeking an individual who will be responsible for producing detailed mine rehabilitation designs, structural designs, specifications and construction drawings of large, multi-million rands infrastructure and D&O projects that involve the rehabilitation of ownerless and derelict mines. The incumbent will also be expected to assist with construction project management and oversee construction monitoring.

Job description
Design and Documentation:

Prepare detailed mine rehabilitation designs including the production of construction drawings, and specifications for all applicable works ensuring that all documents accurately capture the nature, size and scope of the project.
Project initiation including desktop studies and site investigations to produce scoping reports.
Conducting pre-feasibility studies and community engagement
Manage specialist sub-consultants like geotechnical specialists, surveyors etc.
Sign-off rehabilitated mines
Undertake technical reviews / audits to ensure that designs are in accordance with project / study requirements and company objectives and are produced in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Provide coaching and guidance to less experienced staff, junior engineers and interns to increase technical competence.

Construction Supervision:

Full contract management of the allocated projects
Address any on-site deviations to the scope, designs and specifications with the Head of unit.
Conduct key milestone onsite inspections and approve site quality tests.
Attend Progress Meetings and arrange and facilitate technical/coordination meetings.

Project Coordination:

Coordinate the execution of projects to ensure that the outputs / outcomes are in line with Mintek’s strategies and goals.
Manage and assess all project documents submitted by contractors, including designs, scoping documents, bills of quantity, and budgets.
Proactively manage tasks and activities to ensure that problems and delays are identified early, and remedial action is instituted to minimise consequences.

Compile weekly project progress and financial reports.
Assist Project Manager in compiling quarterly reports for submission to DMR.

Stakeholder Management:

SHEQ management:

Minimum requirements
