REQUIREMENTS:
• Grade 12 
• Valid C1 driver’s license 
• SAESI Accredited Fire Fighter 1 Certificate 
• Valid First Aid Level 3 certificate 
• SAESI Accredited Hazmat Awareness Certificate 
• Ability to communicate in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape 
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ATTACHED TO THE POST 
• Reasonable level of fitness with no extreme cardiac or respiratory conditions 
• Ability to perform strenuous duty for prolonged periods in extreme weather and fire – fighting situations 
• Physical strength, endurance and ability to adequately demonstrate and instruct recruit fire fighters in equipment’s using and firefighting techniques 
• Need to pass all required medical test prior to being employed 
 
SPECIAL CONDITIONS ATTACHED TO THE POST 
• Willing to work irregular hours with specific reference to shift work, call outs and job-related availability at all times in cases of emergency 
• Incumbent must pass psychological test if required 
• Incumbent must be able to conform to all requirements with regards to working environments associated with the post 
• Interchangeable with other functions, i.e. Operations, Fire and Life Safety and Training, as and when required by the Chief Fire Officer 
• Incumbent must be willing to work at any Fire Station within the George Municipal Jurisdiction 
 
 
DUTIES:
• Receive classroom and in-task training in firefighting, emergency medical services, rescuer, hazardous materials respond, and basic fire prevention, fire department rules, regulations and procedures, fire codes and related subjects 
• Participate in fire prevention inspections and programs 
• Performing operational functions under leadership of more senior ranks regarding the prevention of the outbreak or spreading of a fire, the fighting or extinguishing of a fire and the rescue of lives as a team or sector leader 
• Oversee and perform testing, maintenance and cleaning functions on all emergency vehicles, equipment and station facilities, as well as hydrants and hose reels including the marking of hydrants as instructed 
• Perform administrative duties related to the facility, vehicles and equipment testing and maintenance 
• Perform on a relief basis, communications center functions 
• Safely and effectively operate the full range of fire response apparatus

• Geldige C1 bestuurderslisensie 
• SAESI geakkrediteerde brandweerman 1 sertifikaat 
• SAESI Hazmat bewustheid 
• Vermoë om in ten minste twee van die amptelike tale van die Weskaap te kommunikeer 
 
FISIESE VEREISTES AAN DIE POS: 
• Redelike vlak van fiksheid sonder uiterste hart-of respiratoriese kondisies 
• Vermoë om werk wat inspanning verg in uiterste weerstoestande en brandbestrydingstoestande te doen 
• Fisiese krag, uithou vermoë en vermoë om brandbestrydings tegnieke voldoende aan rekruut brandweermanne in toerusting te demonstreer en aan te leer 
• Moet alle vereiste mediese toetse slaag voordat hulle in diens geneem word 
 
SPESIALE VOORWAARDES AAN DIE POS: 
• Bereid wees om onreëlmatige ure te werk met spesifieke verwysing na skofwerk, uitroepe en werksverwante beskikbaarheid in noodgevalle 
• Die posbekleër moet die sielkundige toets slaag indien nodig 
• Die posbekleër moet in staat wees om te voldoen aan alle vereistes met betrekking tot werksomgewings wat met die pos verband hou 
• Uitruilbaar met ander funksies, bv. Bedrywighede, brand- en lewensveiligheid en opleiding, soos en waar nodig deur die brandweerhoof 
• Posbekleër moet bereid wees om by enige Brandweer stasie binne die George Munisipale jurisdiksie te werk 
 
PLIGTE:
• Ontvang klaskamer-en indiensopleiding in brandbestyding, nood mediese dienste, reddingswerker, gevaarlike materiaal, en basiese brandverkoming, brandweer reëls, regulasies en prosedures, brandkodes en verwante vakke 
• Neem deel aan brandvoorkomings inspeksies en programme 
• Die uitvoering van bedryfsfunksies onder leiding van meer senior amptenare ten opsigte van die voorkoming van die uitbreek of verspreiding van ‘n brand, dia aanval of blus van ‘n brand en die redding van lewens as span- of sektorele leier 
• Toesig en voer toets-, instandhoudings-en skoonmaak funksies op alle noodvoertuie, toerusting en stasie fasiliteite, sowel as brandkrane en brandtolle, insluitend die merk van brandkrane soos onderrig 
• Voer administratiewe pligte uit wat verband hou met fasiliteite, voertuie en toerusting toets en instandhouding 
• Werk op ‘n verligting basis, funksies van kommunikasie sentrum 
• Veilig en effektiewe gebruik van brandreaksie apparate
