MEDICAL OFFICERS GRADE 1 OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE 
 
The Eastern Cape Department of Health is looking for the services of individuals registered with the health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). We are awaiting applications for vacant medical officer’s posts as detailed below. 
A non-pensionable rural/nodal allowance is payable at certain areas in Alfred Nzo, Joe Gqabi, Chris Hani, OR Tambo and Sarah Baartman Districts certain areas in Amathole as determined by the Collective Agreement.

SALARY: GRADE 1: R 906 540 PER ANNUM 
(A portion of the package can be structured according to the individual’s personal needs). Please note that you may also qualify for Nodal/Rural Allowance in terms of Resolution 2 of 2004. As this is not a salary but a benefit for working in a deep rural institution – should you be transferred to an institution which is not rural it will automatically be terminated. Overtime will also be determined in terms of the applicable overtime policy. 
 
Requirements: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Practitioner. Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner. Experience: Grade 1: None after registration as Medical Practitioner. 
 
DUTIES : The incumbent will be responsible to interview, investigate, diagnose, and oversee the treatment of patient related administrative duties, participating in all activities of the discipline in relation to teaching and research, participating in departmental audit activities, preparing, and writing of reports, liaison and communication services and community liaison. Supervising junior doctors (undergraduate students, interns, and community service doctors). Willing to do commuted overtime. Attendance of relevant administrative meetings like mortality meetings, near miss meetings and completing Medico Legal Documents timeously (e.g., Death certificate). Improve quality of care by providing appropriate clinical care. Reduce medical litigation by exercising good clinical ethos. Implement and monitor adherence to National Core Standards (norms and standards). Participate in multidisciplinary team to the management of patients. Performance of practical procedures relevant to the care of patients. Participation in departmental meetings, journal clubs, case presentations, lectures, and ward rounds. Ensure that administration and record keeping is done in the department. Rendering of after-hour (night, weekend, and public holiday) duties to provide continuous uninterrupted care of patients. Medical officers will inter alia be responsible for rendering of clinical services, assessment, and treatment of patients. Medical officers will be rotated through related departments at various hospitals, comprising hospital served in their specific outreach programmes 
Facilitate and support the provision of PHC services in the district including clinics, Community Health Centers and district hospitals as part of District Health Services. Improve clinical quality of PHC services through direct patient care, mentoring and supervision of health care professionals through an integrated approach programme. Support the development of the clinical department of family medicine and participate in academic teaching and learning in family medicine and PHC in the district. Support the training activities for nurses, interns and community service doctors.
