JOB DESCRIPTION

The position reports to the Manager: ICT
PERMANENT
The Systems Administrator is responsible for supporting and maintaining the CSOS’s ICT systems including desktop provision, network infrastructure, and associated software and business applications in order that all CSOS employees can maximise their use of ICT. The role must provide CSOS users with support deployment, configuration and management of computing and infrastructure services
Whilst complying with the Units policies and procedures, the incumbent must focus on framing and supporting their work to respond to CSOS’s business requirements through troubleshooting and diagnosis of problems and take corrective measurements.
Requirements:
• A 3-year National Diploma in Information Technology or Equivalent
• Microsoft Office 365 certification will be an added advantage
• Postgraduate in Information Technology
• A total of 4 years’ working experience as a Network / Systems Administrator
• Understanding of compliance and governance structures
• Stakeholder management and the ability to develop and maintain stakeholder networks
• Knowledge of project management administration, systems, and tools
• Information systems management
• Good analysing techniques to understand the business needs and the workflow of the management and the administration tasks.
Key Performance Areas:
• Contribute to the development of operational plans in the Unit
• Comply to all policies and procedures in the Unit
• Conduct project administration, recorded keeping d produce project related reports
• Systematize the achievement of deliverables against project plans
• Demonstrate knowledge of the latest development within area of expertise
• Take ownership for own work, performance management and development
• Introduce improvement opportunities within area of expertise in line with best practice to optimise performance
• Engage in problem solving and continuous improvement to maximize output of area
• Support, test and troubleshoot hardware and software problems
• Conduct software and hardware evaluations
• Provide technical analysis and implement systems to meet the CSOS’s IT goals
• Provide input in the development and implementing an IT disaster recovery plan
• Perform and coordinate effective installation and configuration of advanced operating system hardware and software on servers
• Install new software releases, system upgrades, evaluate and install patches and resolve software related problems
• Maintain, monitor, and analyse system components and make recommendations regarding computer system security, monitor network, computer, and disk utilization
• Support, maintain and regularly check back up services
• Schedule and conduct daily, weekly, and monthly backups
• Ensure that back up data validated and sent to off-site storage for protection
• Maintain register of licensing and software
• Audit system software and licensing to ensure compliance
• Participate in disaster recovery, incident handling when required
• Inventory and provide accounting for resources including software, server, workstation, and laptop systems
• Maintain inventory of hardware suppliers (cable, adapters etc.)
• Conduct restores of lost, deleted, or corrupt data
• Check backup log files
• Escalate backup problems to relevant IT staff
• Support and maintain end user requirements, including troubleshooting, account maintenance and training
• Investigate problems and provide technical assistance and support
• Diagnose hardware and software problems
• Resolve hardware and software problems
• Respond within agreed time limits to call-outs
• Confer with users to establish user requirements
• On-call when needed
• Train CSOS staff on standard software applications
• Troubleshoot network infrastructure problems
• Resolve network infrastructure problems
• Install network infrastructure cables and peripherals (switches, hubs etc)
