LIBRARIAN TRAINEE
SHORT-TERM CONTRACT POSITION
(12 Months contract)
DEPARTMENT: Community Development
BRANCH: Library and Information Services
DESIGNATION: Librarian Trainee
REMUNERATION: R22 993,05 (basic salary, no benefits)
LOCATION: Library and Information Services: Various Regions A - G
Minimum Requirements:
• Tertiary four-year degree in Library and Information Science (NQF level 7);
• Qualified candidate with little or no library experience will be given preference;
Primary Function:
Render a people-oriented, efficient and cost-effective Library and Information Service to the public.
Key Performance Areas:
• Render and supervise routine library operations;
• See that communications needed to operate effectively are taking place;
• Manage and control financial matters concerning the day to day operations;
• Manage the staff matters under the control of the Librarian.
Leading Competencies:
• Teamwork and Accountability;
• Ability to work under pressure.
Core Competencies:
• High level of confidentiality;
• Attention to detail;
• Initiative;
• Professionalism;
• Sound judgement;
• Work independently and under pressure;
• Multi-skilled on a range of roles applicable to the position.

MENTOR

BRANCH: Library and Information Services
DESIGNATION: Mentor
REMUNERATION: R28 456,44 (basic salary, no benefits)
LOCATION: Library and Information Services: Various Regions: A to G
Minimum Requirements:
• Tertiary qualification in Library and Information Science (NQF level 7);
• 5 years’ professional and/or supervisory public library experience;
• Familiar with electronic library systems;
• Previous experience in staff training;
• Experience in Collection Development;
• Book stock knowledge;
• Reference and information retrieval skills.
Primary Function:
Manage all aspects of Collection Development including weeding of library materials and training of Special Dispensation and Permanent staff members.
Key Performance Areas:
• Manage book donations;
• Weeding of library materials no longer appropriate;
• Processing of Special collections;
• Collection of statistical information;
• Training of graduate Special Dispensation and permanent staff members.
