The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. The ARC-Grain Crops (ARC-GC) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic persons to the following positions at Potchefstroom.
SENIOR RESEARCHER: PLANT PROTECTION (ENTOMOLOLGY)
Key Performance Areas:
Project Management/Coordination Initiates, coordinates, and manages projects.
Coordinates project plan with the Research Team Manager.
Manages people within projects and ensures optimal utilization.
Compiles and manages project budgets.
Provide research support, Diagnostic, and other resources.
Plans and co-ordinates technical projects.
Manages project facilities, material, and equipment.
Ensures optimal utilization of resources.
Strategic planning of future resources.
Independently conducts specialist research/technical support, diagnostics, and other services across projects.
Manages data collection.
Performs advanced analysis, interpretation and makes internal and external recommendations.
Compiles detailed reports, provides comprehensive recommendations, and approves final reports.
Manages and ensures compliance to quality standards.
Presents results to stakeholders as an authority (advises/trains).
Technology Transfer Optimizes and implements equipment and/or processes and/or systems.
Recommends and makes decisions regarding new technologies Renders expert diagnostic, technical and other services and consults at a national/international level.
Exploits intellectual property developments and assists in its development.
Identifies and pursues new business opportunities.
Scientific Status Requirements.
Meet peer norm requirements for specific field of expertise, by recognising authorship or contributions.
Magnitude of measurable outcomes (project/programme impact).
Safety, Health, and Environment.
Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedures.
Human Capacity Development.
Develops technical capacity at an appropriate level.
Identifies and participates in own learning opportunities and learning of sub- ordinates.
Requirements:
PhD in Entomology or PhD in Zoology or Biology or Biological Science with Entomology as major.
Minimum 5 years post qualification experience.
Minimum 8 relevant approved peer reviewed publications in Entomology.
Proven record of national and international scientific recognition.
Registration with a scientific professional body will be an added advantage.
Knowledge about insect control in grain crops, insect rearing, and insect resistance will be an added advantage.
Valid driver’s license.
JUNIOR RESEARCHER: CROP PROTECTION (ENTOMOLOLGY)
Key Performance Areas:
Contributes towards project(s) and performs activities under supervision.
Participates in the project in a learning capacity and supervises as delegated.
Assists with compiling & managing the project budget.
Participates in proposal writing in a learning capacity - under supervision.
Participates in planning and co-ordinating research under supervision.
Assists with managing project resources (equipment and research material) under supervision.
Participates in conducting research under supervision.
Assists in capturing, analysing and interpreting data under supervision.
Participates in the compilation of reports under supervision.
Participates in the compilation of reports under supervision.
Participates in writing publications under supervision.
Becomes familiar with networking.
Participates in diagnostic and advisory services under supervision.
Shows awareness of Intellectual Property opportunities.
Starts building working relationships with stakeholders and research organisations.
Assists in training of support staff.
Identifies and participates in own learning opportunities.
Complies with SHE/OHS policies and procedures.
Meets peer norm requirements for specific field of expertise - co-author for a paper every two years.
Requirements:
MSc in Entomology.
Experience in insect rearing, GMOs and insect pests in summer grain crops will be added advantage.
Registration with a relevant scientific registration body will be an added advantage.
Good communication skills (verbal and written).
Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Valid driver’s license.

The ARC- Animal Production (ARC- AP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic persons to the following positions at Irene.
FACILITY OFFICER: ASSET MANAGEMENT X1 (SIX MONTHS (6) FIXED TERM
CONTRACT)
Key Performance Areas:
Monitor and review the capturing of all physical (moveable and immoveable) assets in the physical asset management registers.
Monitor and review the allocation of assets to asset holders.
Oversee and review the monitoring of assets in accordance with the relevant policy and procedures.
Promote correct implementation of sound asset management practices.
Supervise employees to ensure sound physical asset management.
Managed the asset team and compliance thereof with respect to acquisition, operations, verification, and disposal processes.
Assist in sourcing & allocation of the required resources to complete asset management, e.g., Offices, Equipment, etc.
Requirements:
B. Com Degree in Finance or a related field.
3 years of asset management supervisory experience.
Professional membership in the Finance field will be an added advantage.
MS Excel competence in consolidating and working with pivot tables.
Reporting capability.
A valid South African driver's license will be added advantage
ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT: ASSET MANAGEMENT: X1 (SIX MONTHS (6) FIXED TERM CONTRACT)
Key Performance Areas:
Manage departmental assets effectively, efficiently, and economically.
Conduct asset verification and identify obsolete, redundant and damaged items to ensure write-off and disposal.
Take corrective action on unverified assets.
Receive barcode and capture newly acquired assets.
Arrange delivery of the purchased assets, barcoding, and ensure capturing of the location.
Keep a register for the movement of assets and fully complete asset movement forms.
Conduct monthly asset spot checks to ensure that the asset register is updated and kept accurate.
Assist in resolving audit queries on assets.
Ensure completeness and accuracy.
Compliance with the asset management policy, adherence to the asset management reporting timelines and determined by the National Treasury.
Assist in the preparation of quarterly and yearly asset disclosure note.
Requirements:
A National Diploma in Finance or a related field.
1-year asset management experience.
Proficiency in Ms Office Suite.
A valid driver's license.
