The ARC-Natural Resources and Engineering (ARC-NRE) seeks to appoint a highly experienced and dynamic person to the following position in Arcadia and Silverton, Pretoria: 
 
HUMAN RESOURCES (HR) ADMINISTRATOR 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
Recruitment and Selection: 
• Implementation of HR policies and procedures in line with relevant legislation,
• Provide support and advice on recruitment and selection procedures to line managers, 
• Administering of recruitment and selection procedures (including, but not limited to, assisting new employees with appointment documentation and preparing payroll advices). 
 
Administration of Employee Conditions of Service: 
• Appointment and termination of employees, 
• Liaise with Provident and Pension Funds to ensure that employees receive their benefits, 
• Administration of leave in the Employee Self-Service (ESS) system, 
• Attend to all HR and ESS related enquiries and assisting employees with info slips, 
• Render and maintain a quality HR administrative service that conforms to personnel needs and those of the organization, 
• Filing and keeping records of all personnel documents. 
 
Personnel Training and Development: 
• Coordinate application processes relating to all formal and informal training requests, 
• Coordinate performance management processes and derive campus training plans, 
• Compile and submit monthly, quarterly and annual training reports, 
• Maintain records for all types of training and liaise with the ARC Corporate HR Development division. 
 
Performance Management and Development System (PMDS): 
• Management of employee probation, 
• Ensuring that annual performance contracts are submitted on time and facilitating the performance assessment process. 
 
Labour Relations: 
• Ensure that labour related policies are adhered to at all times, 
• Facilitate the disciplinary and grievance process and act as Secretary during the disciplinary process where necessary. 
 
Requirements:
• National Diploma or Degree in HR Management or HR Development, 
• 2 years’ experience in HR Management or related area, 
• Confidentiality, 
• Good organizational and verbal communication skills, 
• Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office suite,

The ARC-Tropical and Subtropical Crops (ARC-TSC) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga: 
 
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
• Identification, removal or reduction of occupational health and safety as well as environmental risks through inspections, 
• Responsible to manage all aspects of OHS and environmental safety, 
• Manage and mitigate all the risk areas, develop and implement an improvement plan, 
• Responsible to train or facilitate training of Safety representatives, first aiders, pesticide sprayers and fire fighters, 
• Continuous evaluation, implementation and improvement of standards, by initiating, reviewing and compiling standard operating procedures, 
• Investigations of motor vehicle accidents and Injury on Duty incidents, 
• Procurement and maintenance of emergency equipment, 
• Advise on selection and use of Personal Protective Equipment, 
• Induction of service providers, new employees and students on OHS processes, 
• Champion a culture of safety and health and environmental compliance throughout the ARC-TSC, 
• Champion and manage all matters relating to Security, 
• Train and manage emergency evacuation procedures, 
• Incidents reporting and Investigation, 
• Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, 
• Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation. 
 
Requirement: 
• 3- year Diploma /Degree in OHS, Safety management or Environmental health or related, 
• Minimum (3) three years’ experience in OHS-related field, 
• HWSETA accredited Occupational Health and Safety training courses, 
• Occupational Health and Safety Representative, 
• Good communication skills (verbal and written), 
• Environmental Compliance (strong recommendation), 
• Professional membership with the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH), 
• Completed courses with SAMTRAC and/or NOSA, 
• Computer literacy,

The ARC-Tropical and Subtropical Crops (ARC-TSC) seeks to appoint a highly, experienced and dynamic person to the following position in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga Province
 
RESEARCHER: CROP IMPROVEMENT (RE-ADVERT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
• Initiate, manage and contributes towards national research projects. 
• Identify the need for human resources in project(s) and manage the allocated resources. 
• Be accountable for compiling and managing the project budgets. 
• Actively source new national research opportunities and write proposals. 
• Identify the need for resources (equipment and material) in projects and manage them accordingly. 
• Compile detailed reports and seek approval for final reports. 
• Disseminate research results by presenting oral and poster contributions. 
• Publish semi-scientific and peer-reviewed reports/articles. 
• Actively seek networking opportunities and liaise with clients (e.g. attend scientific gatherings; work with farmer communities, etc.). 
• Provide research leadership and mentoring to research technicians, assistants and PDP students. 
• Participate in the dissemination and marketing of information through national and international publications, conferences and workshops.

Requirements: 
• PhD in Horticulture or Plant Breeding with five years minimum work experience in fruit tree production and/or breeding. 
• Minimum of 2 years’ research experience in citrus or subtropical fruit plant breeding and evaluation will be an added advantage. 
• Proven record of scientific publications and presentations at scientific conferences and symposia. 
• Registration with a relevant scientific registration body. 
• A valid Code EB driver’s licence.

SENIOR RESEARCHER / RESEARCHER: IRRIGATION AND AGRICULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEERING IN SILVERTON, PRETORIA (re-advertisement)
 
Key Performance Areas: 
• Provide strategic leadership and management under the Irrigation and Agricultural Infrastructure Engineering programme of ARC-NRE, 
• Establish and lead research projects within the areas of interest and expertise in engineering as applied to agricultural problems, 
• Lead the implementation of advanced engineering technologies, 
• Collaborate and interact with research teams across the ARC to ensure broad application of existing engineering technologies, 
• Train postgraduate students in the application of next generation agricultural engineering technologies, 
• Raise funds to ensure the optimal functioning of research programmes at the cutting edge of available technologies. 
 
Requirements: 
• Senior Researcher – PhD in Engineering or equivalent with at least five (5) years’ post-PhD research experience and a minimum of eight (8) relevant peer-reviewed publications, 
• Researcher – PhD in Engineering or equivalent with a minimum of three (3) relevant peer-reviewed publications, or MSc in Engineering with at least five (5) years’ post-MSc research experience, 
• Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), 
• Significant experience in postgraduate student supervision and research team leadership,

• Grow the Soil Science programme as a whole,

• Contribute to reporting research findings in scientific articles, 
• Mentoring young scientists / technicians / postgraduate students and discharging duties in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural research team. 
 
Requirements: 
• PhD in Soil Science with a minimum of three (3) relevant peer-reviewed publications, 
• Proven research background across various fields of soil science, 
• Previous experience in conservation agriculture and/or soil classification/survey would be an advantage, 
• Ability to work with communities and conduct fieldwork, 
• Experience in student supervision and mentoring, 
• Registration with SACNASP (or evidence that registration could be obtained), 
• Good communication skills (written and verbal), 
• Willingness to travel away from home for intermediate periods,

• Provide relevant soil chemical inputs to research projects and advise on a range of soil and other analyses,

• Monitoring and evaluation of analytical processes, and maintenance of scientific quality standards, 
• Assist with acquisition and maintenance of research and analytical equipment, computers, peripherals and specialised software, 
• Compile analytical reports for clients, 
• Contribute to reporting research findings in scientific articles, 
• Mentoring young scientists / technicians / postgraduate students and discharging duties in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural research team. 
 
Requirements: 
• PhD in Soil Science (specialising in soil chemistry) with a minimum of three (3) relevant peer-reviewed publications, 
• Proven research background in a soil (or related) laboratory environment, 
• Knowledge of a wide range of analytical instrumentation, including ICP-MS and ICP-OES, 
• Experience of supervising and managing within research projects, 
• Proven ability to secure national and international external research funding, 
• Experience of SANAS accreditation procedure would be an added advantage, 
• Good communication skills (written and verbal),
