Requirements: • NQF 9 level qualification in Human Resources or related disciplines. • Experience engaging at Board/ Council level in organisations of comparable scale and complexity in the private or public sectors with a minimum of at least 15 years’ relevant experience in Human Resources as well as appropriate senior management experience, at a minimum of 5 years. • A proven track record of strategic leadership and people management. • Experience of managing the broad range of HR disciplines and people across multiple organisational units and organisational change. • Ability to participate and thrive in a leadership environment which can present multiple demands at any time. • A strong communicator and influencer at an individual and collective level. LECTURER Department of Physics Faculty of Science The Department of Physics is a dynamic and growing academic department in the Faculty of Science at the University of Cape Town. The department seeks to fill a permanent academic position at the rank of lecturer to strengthen its present and future research experimental activities within the Metrological and Applied Sciences University Research Unit (MeASURe) in UCT Physics. Research within MeASURe focuses on (1) applications of nuclear physics in the areas of fast neutron beams, gamma ray detection and proton radiotherapy, and (2) solid state physics in the areas of low-temperature nano-electronics and computational condensed matter physics. The university is in close proximity to the Centre for High Performance Computing, and iThemba LABS national accelerator facility, and is pursuing further collaborative projects. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: ADULT AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND TRAINING School of Education Faculty of Humanities The School of Education at the University of Cape Town invites applications for the post of Associate Professor in Education in the Adult and Community Education and Training (ACET) stream. UCT has been offering Adult Education qualifications for many years aimed primarily at capacitating adult educators in community-based organisations, trade unions and the NGO sector. A further recent focus has looked at re-developing qualifications to ensure relevance for the newly established Community Adult Education and Training colleges and other vocational education and training institutions. The School of Education is interested in applicants whose research interests and teaching experience relate to community and workers’ education and training, as well as within the vocational education sector, and that address unemployed adult and youth needs for reskilling and employment. The applicant must have a keen focus on the development, equity, and social justice challenges faced in South Africa. LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER: HUMAN GENETICS (5-year contract) DIVISION OF HUMAN GENETICS DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES The Division of Human Genetics seeks to fill an academic position at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level on a 5-year fixed-term contract. The Division provides preclinical training to the MBChB program, of which human genetics/genomics is integral in the teaching. The Division has a strong research focus that encompasses genomics, molecular, and bioinformatic approaches to investigate human diseases including but not limited to genetic susceptibility to cancer, pharmacogenomics, genetic susceptibility to blindness, hearing loss and rare disorders. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses in Human Genetics and Bioinformatics and to supervise postgraduate students. LECTURER Education Development Unit Faculty of Humanities The Faculty of Humanities is seeking to employ one permanent Lecturer in the Humanities Education Development Unit (Hum EDU) with effect from 1 February, 2023. At present, the HUM EDU manages the Faculty of Humanities’ 4-year BA and BSocSci Degrees. This includes running Introductory Courses (in collaboration with the Centre for Higher Education Development - CHED), managing the Plus Tutorials and promoting the education development and well-being of undergraduate Humanities students more generally. The HUM EDU is in the process of a merger with the Student Support and Engagement Unit, with an aim to developing a sustainable, holistic academic and student support ecosystem that enhances students’ success and well-being in the Humanities faculty from their point of entering into the institution and throughout their educational journey at the university. The central responsibility of this position is to design, teach and convene introductory courses in the Humanities Faculty at first year level on the 4 year general degree programmes with a focus on arts disciplines (Film and media Studies, Languages and Literature, etc.). The appointee will also contribute to varied and on-going educational interventions and research in the wider Humanities Faculty.
