Requirements • Minimum Matric (Grade 12) or suitable work experience and expertise • Recognized qualifications in plumbing, electrical (and general building maintenance if possible) • Preferably registered with competent industry regulator • Basic knowledge of electricity and sound experience in construction-related work relating to small repairs and tasks associated with the job of a Handyman. • Minimum of 3 years working experience as Handyman and Supervisor in the general building and maintenance field. • Be fluent in communicating in isiZulu & English with preference to Zulu speaking. Preference for candidate who can also speak/understand isiZulu, and has technical knowledge and aptitude applicable to the relevant position of handyman • Have ability to work without close supervision, • Have good computer literacy including the use of excel • Must have demonstrable profile of work and references • Code EB Driver’s Licence • Must have people management skills Responsibilities • Performs tasks associated with the execution of repairs and renovations to interior/exterior surfaces, fixtures and fittings, and plumbing systems of building and attending to the completion of procedural administrative reports and instructional/transactional forms/documentation related to the activities of the Section. • Repairs defects and/or renovates interior/exterior building surfaces and surroundings. • Interacting and comprehending repair requirements detailed on approved work orders, communicating material and tools requirements to support personnel and monitoring the loading sequence • Driving to worksite and attending to specific preparatory requirements, communicating with the support personnel on specific sequences/applications with respect to removal of defective fittings, paint, sealing of cracks, etc. and/or tools /materials to be used. • Executing specific applications to concrete surfaces (plaster, paint) and/or cutting to size and replacing damaged fixtures (fascia boards, door and window frames, etc.) using hand held tools. • Removing and replacing fixtures (locks, handles, taps) and test functionality. • Replacing broken panes, tiles, paving on walkways, etc. measuring, cutting to size, replacing and applying finishes to replacement. • Erecting partitions or building screen walls, referring to pre-determined markings and/or instructions, preparing area and laying bricks using hand-held tolls to apply mortar/cement and check heights. • Checking applications/areas completed and/or seeks confirmation from immediate superior on specific finishing sequences. • Communicating with support personnel on site cleaning requirements and, removal and loading of materials and tools. • Completes internal transactional documentation (e.g. time sheets, job, etc.) and related forms, • Inserting relevant information (quantitative/qualitative and/or details of activities. • Forwarding to the relevant personnel for processing. • Referring to work schedules and registers to correct deviations in entries raised during processing. • Supervision of work stream/staff, if and when necessary. • Upkeep and maintenance of various municipal buildings and facilities and ensuring that scheduled maintenance, planned interventions and breakdowns are carried out correctly and timeously on the operation. • Ensuring that safety, health, environmental and quality requirements enforced on the operation are always adhered to. • Reporting on usage of buildings and facilities • Planning and forecasting for budget process as it relates to maintenance • Keeping records and verification of assets and their conditions (buildings and facilities) • Keeping and updating records of suppliers and service providers in conjunction with SCM • Ensuring cost effective use and management of assets (buildings and facilities) Failure to comply with the provision of any of these advertisements and/or the canvassing of Councilors and/or officials and/or rendering of false information on the application, will result in disqualification.
