COMMERCIALISATION SPECIALIST (Permanent contract of employment with three months’ probation, Patterson Grade D2, Salary-R 708 787.00 Cost to Company) The purpose of this role is to manage the successful delivery of the Enterprise Development value proposition and ensure the smooth running of the incubation programme. Responsible for the achievement of Enterprise Development goals and objectives. To facilitate the development of high-tech, high-growth start-up businesses by providing business model guidance, a range of business support services and Portfolio management and monitoring to ensure successful outcomes in the respective Bioeconomy business incubator and the Enterprise Development Team as a unit. The Bioeconomy focusses on pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, Agri processing, medical devices, indigenous knowledge systems. The responsibilities include: Strategy Development/Execution/Control: To assist the Executive Manager Enterprise Development, develop and implement the strategic plans for the organisation’s operations to achieve the portfolio objectives • Advise SMEs on various aspects of their business plans, with emphasis on business models, strategy, marketing, distribution channels, human resource management, operations/supply chain management, finances and fund raising within the international business ecosystem • Provide linkages to other forms of support such as intellectual property and incubation services • Ensure effective project management and Commercialisation of Bioeconomy projects • Undertake evaluations and due diligences with emphasis on feasibility and economic viability as well as potential to impact on Gauteng economy • Advise on Bioeconomy trends and opportunities to the team to support the current cohort as well as identification for future recruiting needs • Develop, implement and/or improve internal reporting systems and documentation for monitoring and tracking Enterprise Development services to SMEs and stakeholders • Contribute to required monitoring and evaluation efforts, such as the designing and monitoring of Performance Monitoring Plans (PMPs), completion of data quality assessments, and completion of Portfolio Reviews • Maintain a database of Bioeconomy of internal current incubated companies and graduated companies. Operational Management: Support the Executive in department organisational with the approval of departmental operational and business plans, resources, and performance contracts • A Commercialisation Specialist needs to support the executive with the sector specific 5- year strategy • The Commercialisation Specialist takes full responsibility for the recruitment, performance, and growth of the business development office (BDO) • Recruit, onboard, and manage high performing mentors with the assistance of Supply Chain Management (SCM) • Crafting and project management of the incubatees milestones to ensure successful commercialisation and graduation • Maintain project timelines to ensure tasks are accomplished on time • Communicate with the Executive on a regular basis by preparing relevant reports routinely and on an ad hoc basis • Provision of leadership, management, and capabilities of the department, including efficient and effective resourcing • Overall coordination of departmental Portfolios and partnerships • Implements programmes that meet corporate goals and objectives. Delivery of the Enterprise Value Proposition: Development and review of business plans together with the Entrepreneur for internal funding cases • Incorporating aspects of business models, market research, marketing strategy, sales strategy, business strategy, into business plans • Conducting training in relevant business and BioEconomy topics • Understanding technology and it’s competitive advantage, understanding competing technologies and competing companies and what could differentiate the company in the market • Foster and grow good relationships with development finance institutions (DFI), corporates, angel investors and venture capital funding organisations • Good understanding of tailoring business cases to align with funding mandates from development finance institutions and venture capital organisations • Supporting the entrepreneur with content and preparation for funding pitching • Providing entrepreneurs with strategic inputs and advice when developing a technology Commercialisation strategy which includes the ability to support with deal making negotiations to benefit the inventor • An understanding of corporate governance and the key requirements for the growth phase of the business • Continuously strengthening the incubation service offering; tailoring the training offering based on the current cohort • Strategic identification, recruitment, and management of high-quality mentors • Strategic identification, recruitment, and management of novel high-quality high growth start-ups • Supporting the entrepreneur to build strong investment cases for SSP and other investors • Providing strategic interventions for the company needs which may include HR bottlenecks and identification of critical skills, legal contracts, and terms sheets etc • Responsible for drafting Quarterly reports • Ensuring compliance with reporting requirements • Taking responsibility for projects with multiple Helix partners specifically relating to Enterprise Development • Establish linkages with multiple Helix partners such as DFI’s higher education institutions and science councils to effectively support entrepreneurs • Conduct Portfolio feedback surveys to continuously improve the value proposition • Filing all relevant documentation for incubated companies on the share drive for internal management and Audit reasons and any ad-hoc request for information. Financial Planning Management: Planning and budgeting for the delivery of value proposition in accordance with the Ops plan • Ensure timeous payments for Mentors. Corporate Governance + Compliance: Responsible for clean Audit outcomes • Responsible for resolving risk register items • Responsible for timeous submission of quarterly reports • Responsible for quarterly assessment of the portfolio. Business Development: Identify and develop new markets to introduce the company’s products • Identify key intervention areas to create sustainable financial growth and impact • Design, execute, and evaluate market access strategies to increase sales of the portfolio companies. People Management and Development: Commercialisation Specialist takes full responsibility for the recruitment performance and growth of the business development office (BDO). MINIMUM QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for this position, candidates need to be in possession bachelor’s degree in Commercialisation, Business Management or Entrepreneurship (or equivalent); 8 years’ business experience and 5 years tech commercialization experience. Sound understanding of Bioeconomy markets and trends in SA and abroad with a focus on agri-processing and indigenous knowledge systems. An understanding of IP and how it links to the competitive advantage of a business. Excellent understanding of Venture capital requirements in terms of Return of Investment (ROI). Excellent understanding Financial Analysis. The responsibilities include: • Installation of electricity meters that will be installed during this financial year. • Help with BioPark Installation (3 phases and meters) • Working with property Management company on monthly meter readings for accuracy • Help with connectivity of offices to the back-up power (ensure tenants productivity during power outage or Load shedding) • Labelling of the DB (Distribution Board) • Attending to tenants and staff logged on electrical matters /issues. • Preparing the specification for any electrical work for The Innovation Building including Property Owners Association and all eKasiLabs • Electrical Maintenance checks for all 7 eKasiLabs • All electrical Installation • Managing of all electrical service providers • Perform a standby function in accordance with the policy. • Inspection, fault finding and problem resolution of electrical wiring and appliances. • Managing of all back up power (i.e Generator and UPS) systems and transformers • Basic administration of filling in Job Cards and Standby registers MINIMUM QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for this position, candidates need to be in possession of Matric, Electrical Certificate (N4) and Trade Test.
