MAINTENANCE ASSISTANTS Permanent Posts The SAMRC Facilities Management Division requires a skilled experience Maintenance Assistant who will be responsible for the maintenance of the building and grounds at the SAMRC Cape Town and Pretoria Offices Responsibilities: • The Maintenance Assistant will work closely with the Facilities Handymen to maintain the buildings and grounds. • The Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for prioritizing and organizing own work to maintain internal and external building infrastructure on a daily basis. • Assist with asset transfers and any other facilities management services as requested by the Facilities Handyman or Supervisor. • The Maintenance Assistant will perform relieving duties for the Driver and Postal/ Storeman in their absence. • Adhere to health, safety and environment regulations and organizational policies and procedures Core Requirements: • Matric or Equivalent • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ relevant experience • Basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry and air conditioning experience • Valid Driver’s License (Code 8 or 10) • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. • Must be able to work unsupervised/without direct supervision. • High level of interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate. • Must have the ability to work in a team environment. 2 x Junior Event Administrators Two (2)-year Contract posts The Conference Centre & Event Management Office is a well-known business unit within the SAMRC based at the Head office in Cape Town. This office is responsible for arranging and managing events facilitated nationally and internationally. We take pride in what we do by offering a professional and personal service to our clients. The two positions require enthusiastic candidates to work flexible hours over a 2-year contract period. Generally, 8 hours per weekday, however, the incumbent might be required to travel and work flexible hours (evenings, weekends, etc.) to suit the needs of our events. We are looking for 2 Junior Event Administrators with creative minds, excellent communication skills, confident, dedicated and motivated with good customer service experience and most importantly, willing to learn. Responsibilities will include: To assist with handling the administrative end of a busy Event Management Office, ensuring that events are professionally managed and ensuring clients are kept satisfied and that events are professionally executed. § General day-to-day administrative duties. § Providing administrative support to the event manager, event team and organising committee across all events, as required. § Develop event-specific organisational tools such as timelines, contact lists, and work deliverables. § Organise and prepare meetings with Clients/Committees including compiling relevant information, reports to committee members/clients. § Set up events on the Event System. § Managing and updating databases (event specific). § Compiling and sending out announcements. § Coordinate travel (bursary recipients, committees, guests, speakers, etc.). § Request and confirm quotes. § Prepare event packs and materials. § Customer service/support. Core Requirements: • Matric certificate and relevant short courses • 1 – 2 years’ Experience in administering and coordinating events or in a similar role • Experience of working on an Event System • Experience of working on a financial system • Extensive MS Office knowledge and skills particularly in Word, PowerPoint and Excel, as well as electronic diary scheduling using Outlook.
