SPECIALIST SCIENTIST (E) /SPECIALIST SCIENTIST (S) / SENIOR SPECIALIST SCIENTIST: CANCER EPIDEMIOLOGY AND PREVENTION Duration: 5-year Full-time contract The South African MRC NCDRU’s program on ‘cancer epidemiology and prevention’ is a new research program on priority cancers, as well as their environmental, dietary, lifestyle and genetic determinants in South African and sub-Saharan African region. The program is located organizationally under the auspices of the Office of the Director. NCDRU is looking for a seasoned scientist to develop and maintain its cancer epidemiology and prevention research program. This is a 5-year full-time contract post which is available immediately, based in Cape Town. The post holder must actively contribute to the SAMRC’s transformation agenda. Leading the development and maintenance of an integrated program of research to improve the understanding, prevention, detection and control of priority cancers and their determinants. 2. SENIOR BIOSTATISTICIAN Permanent Position – 1 Post The Biostatistics Research Unit of the SAMRC is an active research entity that collaborates with health and medical researchers from the SAMRC, universities, other research institutions and international agencies. Statisticians in the Biostatistics Research Unit provide statistical support on design, analysis and reporting, to collaborative national and international projects in the SAMRC research portfolio. These range from surveys, epidemiological studies to randomised controlled and clinical trials. Statistical methodological development as well as the training and supervision of researchers and junior staff, is also undertaken. The Biostatistics Research Unit offers a challenging biostatistics career in health and clinical research within a dynamic environment. The Unit has a number of methodological research programs such as longitudinal data analysis, and spatial data analysis. The successful candidate will have an individual research portfolio and contribute to these programs. JUNIOR SCIENTIST Duration: 18-months Contract The SAMRC’s HIV and other Infectious Diseases Research Unit requires a suitably qualified and experienced Junior Scientist. The Junior Scientist is required to assist with coordinating a qualitative research study focused on maternal and child health in KwaZulu-Natal at the RK Khan clinical trial site. The Junior Scientist will be involved in qualitative sampling and participant recruitment and enrolment, schedule interview appointments with the participants, organize study logistics for data collection activities and conduct in-depth interviews. The incumbent will conduct focus group discussions and assist with interview summaries, analysis and report writing and provide presentations and co-authoring conference abstracts and study publications.
