SOUTH AFRICAN MEDICAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (SAMRC) SENIOR RESEARCH TECHNICIAN: FIELDWORKER – 1 POST Duration: 2 Year Contract The South African Medical Research Council’s Health Systems Research Unit has been awarded funding from various sources to conduct several studies which focus on the prevention and treatment of HIV and the prevention of gender-based violence among adolescents and young people. These studies are based in schools, communities and health services. A suitably qualified and experienced fieldworker is needed to work across several studies. The fieldworker will screen, recruit, and enrol research participants, complete informed consent procedures, undertake interviews and follow up participants as per the relevant study protocol and will be based at the SAMRC Cape Town Offices. The unit will recruit and appoint the applicant with start date on 01 June 2024. Responsibilities: • Engage in planning around recruitment and retention. • Conduct Household and school-based surveys. • Screen, recruit, and enrol participants. • Set-up and schedule follow-up appointments with participants, as needed. • Conduct informed consent procedures with participants. • Conduct face to face or phone interviews with participants. • Reimbursement of participants and ensure relevant forms completed. • Monitor data collection activities to ensure adherence to the protocol. Core Requirements: • Grade 12/Matric or similar relevant qualification or higher • Experience as a field worker in school-based studies and household surveys. • Experience with conducting research interviews. • Experience with obtaining participant consent for research participation, including consent from parents and minor children. • Experience with monitoring study data collection and with quality control of data collected and captured. • Proven experience in use of Ms Word and Excel • Fluency in speaking and writing in English and isiXhosa. Advantageous: • Experience working with gender-based violence research and HIV research. • Experience working with adolescents and young people in research studies.
