The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) with its head office in Pretoria is the statutory body regulating the private security industry in South Africa. CALL FOR NOMINATIONS OF PERSONS TO SERVE AS PSiRA COUNCILLORS In terms of Section 6 of the Private Security Industry Regulation Act, 2001 (Act No. 56 of 2001) the Minister of Police must in consultation with Cabinet, appoint the following five (5) members of PSiRA Council: • Chairperson; • Vice-chairperson; and • Three (3) additional councillors. The Minister therefore, hereby invites nominations/applications from interested qualified persons to serve as PSiRA councillors. Minimum criteria for nominations: To be eligible as a member of the Council, an applicant/nominee must be a fit and proper person, a citizen of or have permanent resident status in the Republic of South Africa. Applicants/Nominees may not have a direct or indirect financial or personal interest in the private security industry or represent or be a member of a body representing the interests of employers or employees in the private security industry or security officers or any security business or be an un-rehabilitated insolvent. Applicants/Nominees must have relevant extensive experience in corporate governance and of serving in governing bodies, particularly in public sector regulatory environment, and knowledge of safety and security in general. Applicants/Nominees may be required to obtain a security clearance from State Security Agency as may be determined by the Minister. The Role: The functions of the Council include among others taking steps to achieve the objectives of the Authority in regulating the private security industry in the Republic and overseeing and exercising general control over the performance of the functions of the Authority and of the activities of the persons appointed by Council to perform these functions. Remuneration: A councillor who is not an employee of the Authority or an officer or an employee in the public service will be paid from the funds of the Authority such remuneration and allowances as determined by Council with the concurrence of the Minister of Police. These remuneration and allowances shall be in line with the Category A1 tariffs as determined by the Minister of Finance under service benefits packages for office-bearers of statutory and other institutions. The following documentation should be provided: • Nominations/Applications must be accompanied by a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the nominee/applicant and certified copies of supporting qualifications and identity document; • A written motivation explaining the nominee/applicant’s suitability for appointment; • A declaration of NO interest in the private security industry or in any organisation/association in the private security industry; • Written disclosure of business interests and memberships in other boards/councils; and • In the case of a nomination, the nominee’s acceptance letter of the nomination.
