OMBUD FOR FINANCIAL SERVICES PROVIDERS (FAIS OMBUD) INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ADVERTISEMENT ASSISTANT OMBUD
Making recommendations on how to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and delivery of services relevant to the mandate of the FAIS Ombud, using technology and technical methods and methodologies;
Drafting information circulars following the issuing of determinations, for circulation, awareness and education purposes; Compiling training manuals and industry practice notes on product improvements; Participating in the internal or external development of and/or review of standards, documentation and methods relevant to the functions of the FAIS Ombud; Researching case law and providing legal opinions; Liaising directly with the Tribunal in relation to matters before the Tribunal for reconsideration from the FAS Ombud; Acknowledging a request for an affidavit and draft the required affidavit as per the legal requirements; Liaising directly with High Court for any matters relating to the FAIS Ombud; and Representing the Office at various fora. The ideal candidate must have: LLB or BProc Degree (Admission as an Attorney or Advocate will be an advantage); An understanding of the regulatory environment and the ability to make market conduct-related arguments for any of the following: the financial services industry, banking industry, insurance industry, investments, forensics, actuarial and/or the auditing field; A minimum of 2 years’ experience in either the financial services or Forensic industries; Extensive experience in legal drafting; The ability to conduct an impact analysis of any impending regulatory challenges and advise on changes required to adapt to any such changes in legislation; Sound report writing skills; and Ability to communicate in two or more official languages will be an advantage. Furthermore, the ideal candidate must: Be able to multi-task and handle enquiries from various management levels; Be able to handle confidential information; Have good written and verbal communication skills; Be able to conduct legal research and draft legal opinions; Be able to operate within a high-pressure environment; Be able to meet deadlines; and Be computer literate.
