NATIONAL MUSEUM BLOEMFONTEIN PERMANENT VACANCY: COLLECTIONS MANAGER: KAROO PALAEONTOLOGY The Karoo Palaeontology Department is searching for a Collections Manager. The main purpose of the post is to manage the Palaeontology Collection of the Museum, to conduct research and to publish in the field of Palaeontology. Salary grading: Level 7 which consists of a basic salary of R242 475.00. In addition to the basic salary there are benefits of 13th cheque, pension, medical aid, and housing allowance.
Key Performance Areas • Management of Collections. • Conducting research, which is published in peer-reviewed journals, books, and reports. • Provision of professional services to students, other researchers and institutions / bodies. • Provision of expert support for Museum exhibitions and educational activities in order to inform and popularise Palaeontology as a field of expertise. • General Administration Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Qualification: Minimum MSc in any Palaeontology field and a valid Code 8 driver’s license. Experience: Must have a publication record in peer-reviewed journals. At least one first-authored publication in an accredited scientific journal. Experience in collaborative research, collecting, preparing and working with fossil specimens. Experience in databasing software. Knowledge: Knowledge of palaeontology, and modern sampling and identification techniques. Knowledge of curatorial best practices, database management, and computer literacy. Personal Attitudes: The person should be organised, administratively adept, have an eye for detail, and have the ability to work under pressure.
