The Council seeks to make the following appointment.
 
TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER & COMMERCIALISATION SPECIALIST REF (TTCS/08/2023): (PERMANENT).
The incumbent will report to: Centre of Excellence Manager
REMUNERATION PACKAGE: NEGOTIABLE
 
Job Purpose
To coordinate and implement the dissemination function of the centre of excellence that includes:

• Effective and timeous marketing, promotion and knowledge management of research outcomes;
• Empowerment and upskilling of mineworkers; and
• Identification and facilitation of revenue generation opportunities from research outcomes through royalties and patents of MHSC Intellectual Property.

 
Minimum Requirements

• Masters’ degree in Engineering/ business development related discipline.
• 3-5 years of experience in a technology licensing environment
• 5 years product development experience
• 5 years Commercialisation value chain experience
• 5 years’ experience in marketing planning and implementation in the South African mining industry (SAMI);

Key performance areas:
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following: 

• Developing a network of potential technology partners and funders for research outcomes
• Review, plan and cost development projects with researchers / outsourced service providers to meet next technology readiness level targets.
• Monitor progress in prototype development.
• To identify opportunities for partnership in pursuit of product development and commercialisation.
• Plan and Project manage all the technical and manufacturing elements related to the transfer of technology and transfer of manufacture task.
• To engage intellectual property specialists and agencies such as NIPMO to protect MHSC and ultimately South Africa patents.
• To ensure that no third party is granted full ownership of innovation as a result of research outcome.
• To identify, fund and capacitate related testing environments related to Occupational Health and Safety
• Management of the knowledge and information management unit.
• Management of the training and awareness research outcomes.
• Continuous engagement with the regional tripartite forums.
• To identify opportunities for partnership in pursuit of product development and commercialisation.
• Develop a network of potential technology partners and funders for research outcomes.
• To identify opportunities for partnership in pursuit of product development and commercialisation.
• Develop the technology transfer budget inputs.
• Manage expenditure in line with the approved budget.
• Monitor and report on expenditure against the budget.
• Produce and manage budgets for multiple manufacturing transfer projects.

RESEARCH DELIVERY SPECIALIST: MINING SAFETY (PERMANENT POSITION REF. RDSM/08/2023)
The incumbent will report to: Centre of Excellence Manager
REMUNERATION PACKAGE: NEGOTIABLE
 
Job Purpose
To manage the research delivery process through effective research service provider management, engagement with industry experts to ensure high quality research outcomes as it pertains to Mining Safety.
 
Minimum Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Mining related qualification (Mining Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering).
• 4 years mining related experience.
• 2- 4 years’ experience in the management of projects.
• 2 years’ experience in research management.

 
Added Advantage
Post Graduate qualification in Project Management will be an added advantage.
 
Key performance areas:
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

• All research assignments have a contract and service level agreements in place
• Manage the reconciliation of a contract and exit based on predefined contract criterion.
• Conducts post contract analysis to identify contract value and benefit
• Effective Management of PRP through Service level agreements, project charters, MOU etc.
• Necessary contractual arrangements and intellectual property implications in line with Committee decisions for each project are enforced.
• The Annual approved research projects are regularly assessed, focussing on Technical content, Contractual compliance and Financial controls.
• Monthly interaction between researchers is required to ensure that project outputs answer the research questions.
• Corrective actions are taken and modifications to the research projects are negotiated where necessary.
• Final project reports are assessed for impact, results, research methodology, data integrity, conformance of deliverables, correct interpretation of results, relevance of conclusions and recommendations.
• Relevant research proposals annually solicited in line with the identified Health and Safety needs of the Mining Industry.
• Research proposals evaluated for costs, relevance, impact, proposed outputs, team capability and costs, IP, research outcomes and ethical clearance.
• Project proposals finalised and the involvement of designated mine champions, expert advisors and auditors advised on.
• The proposed Annual Programme is prepared for consideration by the relevant Committee and the Council.
• Necessary contractual arrangements and intellectual property implications in line with Committee decisions for each project are enforced.

PROGRAMME MANAGER: CULTURE TRANSFORMATION AND WOMEN IN MINING (PERMANENT POSITION REF. CTAC/08/2023)
The incumbent will report to: Chief Research Operation Officer.
REMUNERATION PACKAGE: NEGOTIABLE
 
Job Purpose
To oversee the Culture Transformation Advisory Committee (CTAC) and Women in Mining Advisory Committee (WIMAC) to efficiently manage its programmes to implement the Culture Transformation and Women in Mining Initiatives in order to advise council on standards, policies, procedures and health/safety trends.
 
Minimum Requirements

• Minimum B Hons degree (e.g. mining, engineering, industrial psychology, social sciences or related)
• 5 years mining related experience.
• 4 years’ experience in the management of projects.

 
Added Advantage

• Change management experience is advantageous.
• Post Graduate qualification will be an added advantage.
• Relevant Government Certificate of Competency and/ or Professional registration an added advantage.
• A project management qualification will be advantageous.

 
Key performance areas:
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

• Ongoing communication and interaction with stakeholders in order to identify occupational health and safety needs.
• Identification of target group (stakeholders, end-users and relevant authorities) that would benefit by the outcomes of the CTAC and WIMAC programmes developed.
• Development of annual Programme for implementation plan after each biennial summit (Summit Action Plan).
• Coordinate activities related to Summit outcomes through advisory committees.
• Develop a programme to raise awareness on Summit Action Plan in collaboration with Dissemination unit of the MHSC Centre of Excellence.
• A project file per project is created for the life of the project.
• Content of the project file to be as per project management standards.
• Develop a plan for hosting the MHSC summit.
• Coordinate engagements with stakeholders during summit preparations
• Collect data on summit milestones and produce a report.
• Assist in ensuring that the programme for the summit is developed.
• Assist in coordinating the Principals engagements in preparation for the summit.
• Analyse Summit data and provide direction for the Summit on whether targets are to be reviewed or maintained.
• Develop a programme for implementation.
• Coordinate activities to support the Culture Transformation Framework (CTF) through relevant advisory committees.
• Engage stakeholders to ensure implementation of their respective activities in line with CTF.
• Regularly review progress on implementation of CTF and report to Council.
• Provide corrective actions where needed.
• Give inputs to Centre of Excellence if research is necessary and monitor progress.
• Annual executive summary is provided from CTAC and WIMAC programmes through the submission of: Figures and overviews of the projects managed are prepared for collation.
• Provision of information to assist in the formulation of short and long-term plans for the MHSC.
• Input to the Strategy plan is appropriate.
• Networking with local and overseas institutions.
• Awareness of global health and safety trends directions, new developments, products and equipment that may improve health and safety conditions at mines.
• Scheduled interaction with stakeholders in preparation for future health and safety needs analysis.
• Develop calendar of interactions.
• Attendance of conferences and seminars.
• All steps in the process are covered and thought through in terms of possible implications to other areas.
• Work and action plans fit in with given project or operational requirements.

MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT X1 (Ref: MA/08/2023) (PERMANENT)
The incumbent will report to FINANCE MANAGER
REMUNERATION PACKAGE: NEGOTIABLE
 
Job Purpose
The incumbent will be responsible for Management accounting work and reporting for the MHSC, ensuring that the revenue and research budgets are done. Levy invoices are raised on time. He/she will have to prepare and submit monthly and quarterly DMR reports, Treasury Reports, and monthly performance reports on mine levies, DMR levies and administration of fine levies. It will also be part of his/her duties to ensure that invoicing is based on accurate databases to eliminate queries and late payments. Monitor the work of the credit control office as well as monitor and report on research expenditure.
 
Minimum Requirements
• Degree in Accounting
• 3 years articles
• 3-5 years accounting experience as an accountant and in dealing with sales and debtors, purchases and disbursements
• Payroll
• General Ledger
• Reconciliation and reporting
• Knowledge of GRAP requirements and their application
• Knowledge of the PFMA and its application
 
Key performance areas:
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
• Validate the invoicing database
• Provide accounting solutions to enquiries
• Review and supervise the processing of receipts to ensure there are no misallocations
• Ensure that direct deposits into the bank are processed
• Investigate and resolve debtors with credit balances
• Perform weekly bank reconciliations
• Interact effectively with the bank daily
• Handle bank queries relating to debtors
• Prepare revenue budget and rates to be used for invoicing
• Load the approved revenue budget onto Great Plains
• Report on actual revenues against budget
• Liaise with Auditors on revenue, debtors and budgets
• Prepare inputs into audit files and resolve audit queries
• Ensure that all steps in the process are covered and thought through in terms of possible implications to other areas
• Ensure work and action plans fits with given projects or operational requirements
• Monitor and continuously report progress against plan
• Ensure competitive performance measures are benchmarked and defined for the area of accountability
• Ensure workload is allocated appropriately amongst staff and deliverables/ measures/targets are discussed and agreed upon regularly with staff
• Take appropriate remedial action to bring staff members performance to acceptable levels
• Hold regular one-on-ones with staff to discuss progress in area of accountability
• Hold formal performance reviews in accordance with the Performance Management Policy
• Ensure efficiency and quality of services, production processes and procedures
• Ensure recruitment is in line with the recruitment policy and Departmental targets
• Ensure comprehensive and applicable developmental plans for staff are in place
• Provide staff with necessary responsibility, resources, authority, information, and development to perform their work
• Ensure principles and operating guidelines are in place to direct behaviour and assist direct reports with decision making
