DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP Key Performance Areas: • Interact with collaborators to design experiments and develop process designs. • Draft grant applications in this broad research area. • Publish manuscripts in reputable journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings in this field. • Develop a methodology framework for social media analysis. • Ability to co-supervise relevant postgraduate research and/or collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows. • Involvement in initiating and managing research projects. • Assisting in overall management and contributing to the various activities of the Research projects. • Initiating, developing and/or being involved in research networks, collaborations (i.e. formulating spin-offs, and joint ventures), institutional partnerships, and the organization of research events. Minimum Requirements: • PhD specializing in Computer Science or Information Technology or related. At the time of the award, the candidate should have graduated with his/her doctorate degree no longer than within the previous five years. • South African citizens and permanent residents will have priority. • International Postdoctoral Research Fellows must have a long term visitor’s visa endorsed for academic activities affiliated with MUT (Section 11(1)(b) Visitors Visa) • A solid knowledge data science and machine learning. • At least 3 published journal papers in the last 24 months. • Working knowledge and experience with programming languages such as Python, Matlab, Knime. • Established track record of publications and conference contributions related to the outlined research areas. RISK AND COMPLIANCE DIRECTORATE RISK MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST (6 MONTHS CONTRACT)-(P6) Key Performance Areas: • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential risks, including financial, operational, legal, regulatory, and strategic risks. • Develop organizational risk, policies, procedures, strategies, risk plan and framework. • Develop and monitor the implementation of risk assessment response strategies. • Facilitate the capacity building on departmental staff on risk management. POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP: Computational Modeling in Phytomedicine The Department of Nature Conservation through the Research Directorate at Mangosuthu University of Technology is pleased to announce a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for 2023/2024 in Computational modelling in phytomedicine. This fellowship is attached to the project entitled, Computational modelling as an emerging tool in phytomedicine towards sustainable drug development against current and emerging diseases (antimicrobial and antiviral) and including cancer research which is coordinated by Dr. K. Singh. The fellowship will involve virtual screening techniques, such as molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations, to assess the interactions between phytocompounds and target proteins, enabling the prediction of their binding affinities and potential therapeutic effects. This project will also involve in vitro andin vivo experimental validations. The ideal candidate with good phytochemistry and computational skills should be willing to learn new computational applications and experimental techniques, as well as navigate quickly from applied research to technology development. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: • Interact with collaborators to design experiments and develop process designs. • Draft grant applications in this broad research area. • Publish a minimum of 2 manuscripts per year in reputable journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings in this field. • Manage an internal database containing the results of laboratory experiments and molecular simulations that can be used to model new applications. • Ability to co-supervise relevant postgraduate research and/or collaborating with other postdoctoral fellows. • Involvement in initiating and managing research projects. • Assisting in overall management and contribute to the various activities of the Research projects. • Initiating, developing and/or being involved in research networks, collaborations (i.e. formulating spin-offs, and joint ventures), institutional partnerships, and the organization of research events. ELIGIBILITY: • A recently earned PhD in Biological Science (specializing Biochemistry, Botany/Plant Biology, Phytomedicine and Plant Biotechnology), or in Chemistry (Computational modelling). POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP: Food Systems Sustainability and Innovation The Department of Community Extension through the Research Directorate at Mangosuthu University of Technology is pleased to announce a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for 2023/2024 in Food Sustainability and Innovation. This fellowship is attached to the project entitled, food Security and nutrition sensitive agriculture approaches promoting neglected underutilized crop species (NUCs) and edible medicinal plants coordinated by Dr. X. Mkhize. The fellowship will involve multidisciplinary research combining vulnerabilities in Africa’s agricultural and food systems both to promote nutrition sensitive within agri-food value chains. The research is multidisciplinary research in response to climate change impact, food volatility, malnutrition challenges and lack of inclusiveness within the food system. The main goal of this fellowship is to integrate sustainable approaches thorough improving interventions and solutions to render the food system more sustainable and resilient. The project involves experimental field research for crop production, field inventory data, and evaluation. The project scope also includes food laboratory research and sustainable food product innovations with diverse (neglected underutilized crop species) NUCs with edible medical plants of the results and scientific communication. Product formulation must address food security, nutritional needs, food safety, innovative scientific solutions, and technological approaches for purposes of validation and testing. The widen scope of work must address impacts and implications of global change processes such as food systems transformation, food security, nutrition, climate change, sustaining livelihoods, poverty alleviation and indigenous knowledge systems. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: • Demonstrate the familiarity towards sustainable food systems in consideration of agricultural, health disparities and social inequities. • Experience in analyzing indigenous knowledge system trajectory towards addressing food and nutrition security. • Knowledge of food systems simulation model and explore nutrition sensitive approaches in agricultural practices. • Contribute to the design of surveys and fieldwork to promote environmental sustainability. • Implementation of the market and food environment surveys focusing on NUCs edible medicinal plants and other research studies. • Implement innovative agronomy and farming systems research approaches and to understand adoption processes, technology targeting, and the enabling environment to support sustainable intensification at scale. • Manage statistical packages and analysis for both qualitative and quantitative data.
