Requirements: The candidate must possess a minimum of a three (3) year Degree or National Diploma in Civil Engineering or Agricultural Engineering or Hydrological Sciences. Registration with ECSA as a candidate engineering technician or technologist / South African Council for Natural and Scientific Professions (SACNASP) a candidate scientist. Minimum one-year experience in water engineering/hydrological science field. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel. Knowledge, skills, and competencies required: Hydrology and hydraulics. Water resources planning, water resource modelling. Hydrological Data Collection. Use of hydrological modelling software. Excellent communication skills and report writing skills. Problem solving. Ability to work in a diverse environment. Openness and transparency. Innovative. Key Performance Areas: Hydrological data monitoring, collection, processing, and dissemination. Installation, commissioning, calibration, and related activities of all new and existing monitoring sites. Ensure the database is receiving the data from data loggers and check the completeness and correctness of data including evaluation of relevant loggers to be used per gauging site. Perform hydrological surveys as and when is required. Conduct flood calculations. Maintenance of monitoring network. Maintain the IUCMA river flow and rainfall loggers’ probes and associated equipment to ensure reliable and continuous data capturing, develop and coordinate maintenance programmes. Attend and input into relevant river forums and operational committee. analyze/compile specifications, methods, and plans. Provide hydrological and hydraulic support for other divisions.
