The Director position supports and assists the Human and Social Capabilities (HSC) Divisional Executive (DE) in implementing the five-year strategic plan of the HSRC. The Human and Social Capabilities division conducts transdisciplinary, intersectional, policy and programme-relevant research to improve health, well-being and promote a socially just and cohesive society. The HSC therefore seeks to appoint a Research Director on a permanent and indefinite contract; the suitably qualified incumbent that is being sourced must be an accomplished scholar with experience in the research area in health policy and conducting research that is transdisciplinary, intersectional and is aimed at improving health and well-being; and the promotion of a socially just and cohesive society. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act No.17 of 2008. The HSRC aims to attract and retain high-calibre skills and human resources necessary to effectively execute both its mandate to conduct research and to support the strategic intent of the organisation. The Office of the Deputy CEO: Research is the coordination hub of all research related activities in the HSRC. It plays a significant interface role between research and support to ensure that the mandated objectives of the HSRC are achieved. It also serves by creating an enabling research support environment which serves as a catalyst for the attainment of scholarly and sustainability outcomes. The office plays a pivotal role in the monitoring of research performance, research governance, research information services and scholarly publications.
