DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS SCAMS WARNINGSFRAUD ALERT ALL SERVICE PROVIDERS AND BUSINESSES The Department of Labour wishes to advise all suppliers that are currently registered on its database, the members of the public and all other businesses that anticipate engaging in business with the Department, to be on the high alert to a scam that was bought to the attention of the Department around 2014. Fraudsters send unsuspecting suppliers or businesses a request for a quotation for the provision of various items, some of which are: • Generators • Goritas Discs 330 mm. The request for a quotation comes in a forged formal document, bearing the Department of Labour‘s logo and government coat of arms, with speci cations of the items that are required and the contact details of the person that sent the request. The Department of Labour does not have any projects that require the provision of such items nor does it have any business relations with the companies that are requesting these quotations from the suppliers. Furthermore, suppliers or businesses need to verify all received quotation requests with the Department of Labour on the numbers that are indicated on this alert, or alternatively visit our Supply Chain Unit or the Fraud Unit to con rm the validity of these requests. Please confirm any received requests with our Supply Chain Management Unit on: (012) 309 4089 REPORT FRAUDULENT AND CORRUPTION RELATED ACTIVITIES Inform the SAPS or call the Department of Labour’s Anti - Fraud and Corruption hotline on 08600 22194, alternatively use the following methods for reporting: E-mail: [email protected] Fax line: (012) 309 4676 These imposters sound very convincing and professional, and if you don’t validate/ authenticate the request, you will fall victim to the scam and lose a lot of money. FRAUDULENT ORDER SCAMS Beware of fraudsters that are posing as Department of Public Works officials requesting suppliers to deliver goods to the “Department”. Please beware of the following before making any deliveries; 1. Verify with the Department if the Provisioning and Logistics has indeed ordered the requested goods on the following contact numbers 012 406 1482/012 406 1439. 2. Verify the Public Works telephone number on the Telkom Directory book or line 1023 or alternatively check the number on www.publicworks.gov.za. 3. Do not agree to deliver the goods at any other place other than the National Department of Public Works House which is situated at CGO Building, number 256, Corner Madiba and Bosman Streets or any of the Regional Offices in the Provinces.
