CHIEF EDUCATION SPECIALIST – LSEN GOVERNANCE AND CURRICULUM ADAPTATION DESCRIPTION : Inclusive Education CENTRE : Head Office – Zwelitsha (1 Post) (EDU 426) REQUIREMENTS : Applicants must have a recognized three or four-year qualification. A master’s degree in the field of study will be an added advantage. At least nine years-experience at managerial level in the inclusive education environment especially in the field of specialized education and LSEN Governance. Knowledge and understanding of the relevant policies and legislations including Education White Paper 6, PFMA and Treasury regulations. Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills, project management and computer skills are essential. Ability to work under pressure and part of a team is critical. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel are additional requirements. DUTIES :The incumbent will report to the Director of Inclusive Education and his or her responsibilities will include: The overall management of Special Schools, innovating and coordinating the progressive conversion of Special Schools to Special Schools as Resource Centres, the implementation of DBE and Provincial Policies throughout the Province such as South African Sign Language, Three Stream Curriculum, Curriculum Differentiation and Severe and Profound Intellectual Disability Curriculum, the development of guidelines and policies on the support provisioning to LSEN learners, financial planning and Management and Governance of Special Schools, development of LSEN reports as well as facilitating sub-directorate meetings. Crisis management and urgent responses to legal and stakeholder concerns. Coordinate the provision of appropriate and accessible learning materials as well as assistive devices and technologies. ENQUIRIES : Ms S Maasdorp (040-6084776) CHIEF EDUCATION SPECIALIST: GET CURRICULUM (FOUNDATION PHASE) DESCRIPTION : Curriculum Management CENTRE : Head Office-Zwelitsha (1 Post) (EDU 427) REQUIREMENTS : The incumbent should have extensive knowledge of and insight into education policies and legislation for the General Education and Training(GET) Phase. A thorough understanding of background, principles and methodologies underpinning National Curriculum Statements(NCS) including Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement(CAPS). Sound knowledge of issues, challenges and initiatives, pertaining to the teaching and learning, and promotion and progression in South Africa is essential. An understanding of transformational issues in education, Strategic Planning, Problem Solving, Project Management, Presentation/Facilitation and Report Writing Skills, Human Resource Management, Analysis of performance and interpretation of data. A researcher, supervisor with sound human relation and interpersonal skills. Ability to work under pressure both independently and in a team. Proven leadership, networking, consultation and advocacy skills. Management and control of allocated budget. Computer literacy (MS Office Suite, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Outlook). DUTIES : Manage all curriculum related programmes and activities in the Intermediate and Senior Phases, capable of strategic leadership in the education system. Strategic management of the Curriculum in terms of legislation and policy for the GET Band. Monitor, evaluate and appraise the implementation of curriculum and assessment. Conceptualize, design and manage projects for the Phases including the Language Framework, Maths, Science and Technology Strategy, Management of School Based Assessment(SBA) and Subject Committees. Oversees and Monitors CAPS implementation in districts and schools. Leadership in Curriculum Planning according to Strategic Goals and National Mandates. Management of curriculum and administrative personnel at Provincial Office, including PMDS, Coordinates In-Service Training programmes for all subjects in the two (2) Phases. Facilitates the interpretation of existing and new curriculum policies. Budgets and exercises procurement and financial control measures over all activities within the Phases. Networking with other educational directorates, non-governmental organizations and relevant stakeholders. Review and analyze the impact of policies in the Province and provides feedback. Facilitates the development and implementation of Improvement Strategies. Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa(HPCSA). A minimum of one (1) year appropriate experience after registration with HPCSA as an Educational Psychologist. DUTIES :Provide psychological assessment: cognitive, personality, emotional and neuropsychological functions of learners related to learning and development. Facilitate Psychological intervention: perform a range of therapeutic psycho-educational interventions (psychotherapy, counselling, trauma debriefing and refer to other specialists). Facilitate the implementation of educationally based Programmes in response to diverse needs. Parental and educator guidance or feedback. Monitoring learners progress through the SIAS progress. Five years’ experience in the educational field. A valid driver’s license. Registration with SACE as professional educator. Computer literacy. Leadership and management skills. Excellent writing and communication skills. Efficiency in report-writing is highly recommended. Ability to organize and manage projects. Strategic planning, budgeting and problem-solving skills. Sound Human Relations and Interpersonal skills. Problem-solving and analysis skills. Good interpersonal relations. Capacity to work productively under pressure. Facilitation and training skills. Investigation skills. DUTIES :Manage, co-ordinate and monitor all School-Based Assessments and internal examinations activities within GET, FET and ABET. Coordinate and manage the invigilation process in 23 districts. Design and coordinate all monitoring processes for the smooth running of all examinations. Co-ordinate and monitor compliance to the assessment and examinations related policies, regulations and guidelines. Monitor the appointment and training of invigilators, monitors and examination officials in all matters pertaining to management of Assessment and Examinations. Monitor the administration of assessment and examinations processes. Coordination of examination processes and SBA verification.
