HEAD OF DEPARTMENT (renewable based on performance) Minimum requirements: A PhD in the relevant discipline A relevance in this context will depend on the cluster of academic programmes located in the department Associate Professors, Professors or Senior Lecturers Five (5) years’ experience in higher education and academic leadership Scholarship leadership and scholarship Duration Five (5) years fixed contract, renewable for one additional term based on performance Appointment at Professor/ Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer level Summary of duties • Dealing with student queries and complaints regarding the Department/Programme. • Managing and supervising staff which includes: - - The allocation of workload. - Approval of leave. - Enhancing staff relations and building the team towards a student centred department. - Attending to matters such as study leave, grievances, disputes, training & development. - Appointment of part time and replacement staff. - Programme and project budgeting. - Enhancing Faculty projects e.g. Post graduate Recruitment and supervision, Siyaphumelela, FYSE, Orientation and Graduation. - To provide leadership to the department in respect of Teaching & Learning and Research. the department in relevant fora. Department of Visual Communication Design Lecturer, Graphic Design (2 Positions Ref: 185 & 189) Minimum Requirements: Lecturer • A completed Master’s degree in Graphic Design or an appropriate associated field. • A minimum of 3 years teaching experience at tertiary level OR 3 years' experience in a relevant associated professional field. (A design portfolio is needed as evidence of industry work.) Additional Recommendations: • For Master’s level: Be willing to complete a Doctorate within five years of appointment in an appropriate field of study. • Evidence of research or creative output activities. • Teaching experience at a University of Technology. • Experience in innovative teaching and learning technologies, including e-learning. • Experience in teaching English second language students. • Have an understanding and experience in critical writing. • Possess a working knowledge of Graphic Design related software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud programmes. • Have advertising and packaging knowledge and be equipped to lecture both theory and practical modules within the department. • Possess professional industry experience in advertising, graphic design, or art direction that is reflected in a design portfolio. • Have experience in traditional and digital graphic techniques. Summary of Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to: • Teach in the Graphic Design Programme. • Set and mark tests, assignments and portfolios. • Develop learning materials. • Engage in administration duties. • Assist with curriculum development. • Develop materials specific for online learners. • Participate in individual and/or programme research projects. • Attend meetings prescribed by the Head of Department • Undertake duties as assigned by the Programme Coordinator/Head of Department.
