COUNCIL ON HIGHER EDUCATION (CHE) The South African Council on Higher Education (CHE) is an independent statutory body established by the Higher Education Act (Act No. 101 of 1997, as amended). As the Quality Council for Higher Education in terms of the National Qualifications Framework Act (Act No 67 of 2008, as amended) it advises the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation on all higher education matters and is responsible for quality assurance and promotion through the Higher Education Quality Committee. The Research, Monitoring and Advice Directorate is responsible for conducting research and collating information on developments in higher education and publishing the information for the benefit of stakeholders. It also undertakes research that informs advice to the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, in accordance with the advisory mandate of the CHE. The Directorate furthermore convenes research colloquia, seminars and symposia; and oversees the management of the Higher Education Quality Committee’s Information System (HEQCIS) for the private higher education institutions. Applications are invited from interested and suitably qualified candidates for appointment to the following position: SENIOR MANAGER: RESEARCH, MONITORING AND ADVICE (12 MONTHS FIXED-TERM CONTRACT) EMPLOYMENT PACKAGE R774 903 – R786 537 PA The CHE seeks a person with appropriate experience and expertise to be appointed to this position. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Director: Research, Monitoring and Advice.
▪ Managing Task Teams or Working Groups set up to assist in formulating advice;
▪ Participating in internal intellectual discourses within the Research, Monitoring and Advice Directorate and the broader CHE, as well within relevant external forums; ▪ Contributing intellectually to the development of a research agenda for the CHE; ▪ Working with other staff members in the Research, Monitoring and Advice Directorate in organising seminars, colloquia, conferences and other research forums. Minimum requirements ▪ Master’s degree in research and thesis in Education, or other closely related Humanities and Social Science subject areas. A doctorate degree in similar subject areas would be more preferred; ▪ Five (5) years’ demonstrable research experience focusing on, or related to, higher education; ▪ Three (3) peer-reviewed publications within the last five (5) years; ▪ Good understanding of the higher education policy and legislative frameworks; ▪ Above average academic writing skills; ▪ Above average academic review or editing skills; ▪ High level project management skills; ▪ Proficiency in computer skills, including the use of statistical data analysis packages.
