COUNCIL ON HIGHER EDUCATION (CHE)
Applications are invited from interested and suitably qualified candidates for appointment to the following position: RESEARCHER (1 YEAR FIXED-TERM CONTRACT) MONITORING AND EVALUATION R549 942 – R601 330 PA The CHE seeks a person with appropriate experience and expertise to be appointed to this position. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Acting Director: Monitoring and Evaluation Key responsibilities ▪ Preparing research proposals and full research project plans on approved topics or themes; ▪ Conducting desktop and empirical research studies on approved topics or themes, and using approved methodologies; ▪ Drafting research project progress reports, and final reports of findings; ▪ Synthesising research findings and packaging them into advisory notes and policy briefs; ▪ Preparing abstracts and slides on research findings for presentation at relevant conferences, colloquia and symposia; ▪ Contributing content to the research publications within the Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate; ▪ Participating in internal intellectual discourses within the Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate, as well as within the broader CHE; ▪ Assisting the Acting Director: Monitoring and Evaluation in coordinating and monitoring projects commissioned out to external researchers; ▪ Representing the CHE at relevant research-related external fora; and ▪ Performing any other reasonable tasks assigned from time-to-time by the Acting Director: Monitoring and Evaluation. Minimum requirements ▪ Master’s degree by research and thesis in Education, or other closely related Humanities and Social Science subject areas. A doctorate degree in similar subject areas would be an added advantage; ▪ Five (5) years’ demonstrable experience with the conceptualisation of research projects, and with conducting desktop and/or empirical research; ▪ Above average academic writing skills; ▪ Good understanding of the higher education policy and legislative frameworks; ▪ Good project management skills; and ▪ Proficiency in computer skills, including the use of statistical data analysis packages.
