COMPETITION TRIBUNAL INVITATION TO SERVE ON THE AUDIT AND RISK COMMITTEES OF THE COMPETITION TRIBUNAL TWO POSTS The Competition Tribunal (“Tribunal”) is an administrative body established in terms of the Competition Act No. 89 of 1998, as amended (“the Act”). It is responsible, inter alia, for adjudicating mergers and prohibited practices and imposing remedies where applicable.
In terms of section 35 of the Act, the Chairperson of the Tribunal hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons to serve as members of its Audit and Risk Committees as follows: Applications: Applications are invited from individuals who meet the following criteria: • At least an appropriate Bachelor’s degree, • At least 10 years’ management experience in the field of accounting, auditing, legal and/ or risk management, • Working knowledge of the PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and other related public sector legislation, • An understanding of the Tribunal’s mandate, • Understanding of the role of internal and external audit, • Sound knowledge of the principles of corporate governance. Experience in or knowledge of public finance and/or the public sector and previous membership of an Audit or Risk Committee is an added advantage. Duties: The members will amongst other duties perform the following: • Review the annual financial statements of the Tribunal • Review the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, accounting policies including the adequacy, reliability and accuracy of financial information, • Review the performance of the entity against their approved targets and ensure effective performance evaluation and management, • Oversee effective corporate governance including compliance to the PFMA and other applicable legislation and best practice, • Review the internal audit plan and monitor the effectiveness of internal audit, • Review management’s resolution of internal and external audit findings. Terms of appointment: The successful candidates will be appointed for an initial period of 3 years, which may at the Accounting Authority’s discretion, be renewed for another 3-year term. The contract will be reviewed annually based on performance. Meeting schedule: The Audit and Risk Committees of the Tribunal meet at least four times per annum. If required, special meetings may be held. Remuneration: Audit and Risk Committee members are remunerated per meeting for preparation and attendance at a rate equivalent to the “Guideline on fees for audits done on behalf of the Auditor- General South Africa” determined and approved annually by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
