CALL FOR NOMINATIONS BOARD MEMBERS FOR RAND WATER
Ms NOMVULA MOKONYANE, MINISTER OF WATER AND SANITATION CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS TO SERVE ON THE BOARD OF RAND WATER FOR THE TERM 2018-2022 (4 years)
The Minister of Water and Sanitation is the Executive Authority and Shareholder of Rand Water.
She is responsible for the appointment of Board Members of Water Boards. Rand Water is a state-owned entity listed in Schedule 3B of the Public Finance Management Act, 1999 (Act No. 1 of 1999) (PFMA), as amended and operates in terms of the Water Services Act, 1997 (Act No. 108 of 1997) (WSA).
Established in 1903, Rand Water is a public utility wholly owned by the government's Department of Water and Sanitation and it is the largest potable bulk water utility in Africa. Its primary role is to provide bulk water services (which includes water and sanitation services). Rand Water strategic objectives include:
• Achievement Operational Integrity and Use Best Fit Technology;
• Achievement a High Performance Culture;
• Positively Engagement of the Stakeholder Base;
• Achievement of Growth; and
• Maintaining Financial Health & Sustainability.
Individuals and organisations are invited to submit nominations of suitably qualified and experienced persons to be considered for appointment as members of the Board of Rand Water on or before 31 January 2018.
Potential Nominees to the Board must possess qualifications and experience in the following areas:
a. Engineering; Project Management; Construction; Contract Management; Corporate and Project Finance; Water Resource Specialists; Science and Information Technology; Treasury; Legal and Risk Management; Human Resource Management; Accountant and Environmental
Management.
b. Experience in the Water Sector will be an added advantage.
c. Must have personal attributes of objectivity, integrity, good reputation, commitment and should be a South African citizen.
d. Appropriate knowledge of, understanding and experience in exercising fiduciary duties in accordance with the provisions of the PFMA and WSA, King Code of Good Corporate Governance (King IV) and the Companies Act.

Grounds for Disqualification: A nominee will not be considered to hold office as a member of the Board if he/she is a un-rehabilitation insolvent, has been convicted of any offence involving dishonesty, fraud or has been sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine.
Requirements: Upon appointment, the Minister reserve the right to conduct probity checks (criminal and civil records; reference checks; verification of qualifications and experience; credit record and integrity test). Every nomination of a person for appointment to the Board must be signed by a proposer and seconded, none of whom may be the nominee, and must also contain the nominee's signed acceptance. No person may nominate or second more than one candidate.
Stipends: The appointed Board members shall receive a stipend as determined and approved by the Minister of Water and Sanitation. The stipend is paid in respect of expenses incurred in and during attendance of official duties.
