THE INNOVATION HUB The Innovation Hub Management Company (SOC) Ltd (“TIHMC”), a subsidiary of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (SOC) Ltd (a multi-billion Rand initiative by the Gauteng Provincial Government for investing in strategic economic infrastructure so as to unlock economic growth in Gauteng). The Innovation Hub is a leading Science and Technology Park in Africa and a provincial innovation agency, established to spur the growth of smart industries in Gauteng to drive the Transformation, Modernisation and Reindustrialisation of the Gauteng economy. It is now offering the following opportunity to a competent and dedicated person to join a dynamic team in Pretoria East:
• Undertake mapping of Biosciences sector in Gauteng and identify commercialisation opportunities for R & D emanating from R&D community • Support Bio Park initiatives that include establishment and growth of AgriPark, and advanced bio manufacturing • Deliver and grow bio entrepreneurship skills development programmes such as the Gauteng Accelerator program Innovation Competitions; and • Produce progress reports and update plans quarterly and as when requested.
Qualifications, experience and skills requirements: The position requires possession of a postgraduate degree in Biosciences. At least 3 years working experience in Biosciences, Research and Development and commercialization environment; excellent knowledge of contemporary issues pertaining to the Biosciences; an understanding of the various provincial and national strategy documents on Biosciences. The position requires strong project and stakeholder relationship management abilities, supported by excellent communication, report writing, presentation, listening, organisational and time management skills.
COMMERCIALISATION SPECIALIST: BIO ECONOMY Reporting to the Senior Manager: Bio-economy, the purpose of the job is to provide specialist advisory and project management support, including thought leadership in the execution of innovation-enabling programmes on behalf of both public and private sector organisations. The responsibilities include: Ensure effective and efficient recruitment of start-ups • Assist entrepreneurs in technical evaluations, fund raising as well as relevant linkages to established companies for business development opportunities • Coordinate and monitor initiatives for the incubation service offering • Manage training sessions and events for advanced of entrepreneurs • Assist companies to perform primary and secondary market analysis • Ensure tight management of the enterprise milestones and progress of the entrepreneurs including assignment of mentors and review of mentor reports • Assist in preparation of value proposition and investment cases for Investment Committee in support of funding for start-up companies • Assist with commercialisation of innovations • Assist senior manager with incubator reports and infographics
Qualifications, experience and skills requirements: The position requires possession of Bachelors’ degree in Bio-Science and Business Development qualification; At least 3 years’ experience in commercialisation of technology, business development, incubation or working with technology-based start-ups in the Bio-Technology sector. The candidate must have the ability to foster, nurture and encourage growth amongst the entrepreneur and the business. Excellent project and stakeholder relationship management supported by strong negotiating, communication and networking, Programme and Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation (Accountability), Leadership Skills, creativity and a strong aspiration to achieve customer excellence, Problem solving and analysis, Client orientation and customer focus, Understanding of SME Development, Public speaking confidence and Information Gathering and sourcing.
