• Allocate resources; management of budgets and risks management • Maintain effective and efficient management of the area incubation activities • Assist entrepreneurs in technical evaluations, fund raising as well as relevant linkages to established companies for business development opportunities • Assist in preparation of value proposition and investment cases for Investment Committee in support of funding for start-up companies • Assist the GM and Senior Manager in fund raising and recruitment of stakeholders for area enterprise development • Advise project team and start-ups incubated on business risk inherent in the supported projects and strategies to mitigate the impact • Assess regulatory (policies) frameworks and market issues to evaluate competitive dynamics of various resource options that may affect the core business operations • Ensure compliance with relevant legislative requirements, including finance and procurement procedures of both the government of South Africa and other industry and regional bodies • Produce regular progress reports and update operational plans; and • Promote collaboration within and across TIHMC’s business incubators.
Qualifications, experience and skills requirements: The position requires possession of a degree in in the field of science, technology, engineering and Developmental Studies or Business Development, entrepreneurship qualification, At least 4 years’ experience in business development, incubation or working with technology-based start-ups. Demonstrated experience and thorough knowledge of contemporary issues pertaining to township economy, commercialisation of technologies; Market analysis ability in both proprietary and non-proprietary databases; Excellent project and stakeholder relationship management
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER: X 7 (1xBio-economy Unit, 1xSmart Industry Unit, 2xGreen Economy Unit, 7xeKasiLab Unit: 1xSoweto/Kagiso; 1xGarankuwa/Mabopane; 1xAlexandra/Kathorus; 2xSebokeng/Mohlakeng; 2xMamelodi/Tembisa) Reporting to the Commercialisation Specialist: Bio-economy, Commercialisation Specialist: Maxum and Commercialisation Specialist: Green Economy the purpose of this position is to give operational support to coordinating the successful delivery of business incubation services to start-up companies. The responsibilities include: Manage and implement entrepreneur pipeline, including the screening and recruitment of start-ups that attend the pitching sessions • Manage and facilitate market development for township entrepreneur projects in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders • Assist entrepreneurs in technical evaluations, fund raising as well as relevant linkages to established companies for business development and market access opportunities • Coordinate and monitor initiatives for the incubation service offering • Manage training sessions and events for advancement of entrepreneurs • Assist companies to perform primary and secondary market analysis, including doing Growth Wheel assessments • Ensure tight management of the enterprise milestones and progress of the entrepreneurs • Assist in preparation of value proposition and investment cases for Investment Committee in support of funding for start-up companies • Assist with commercialisation of technologies
Qualifications, experience and skills requirements: The position requires possession of a diploma in field of Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Science and Engineering. At least 2 years’ experience in business or SME development, incubation or working with emerging or early start-up businesses. Candidate should have an exposure to policy and legislation governing small and enterprise development. Demonstrate and proven track record in working with various stakeholders, establishing systems procedures and controls.
