SENIOR SCIENTIST: REGIONAL REFERENCE INSTITUTE Salary Range R634 703.55 – R 789 654.65 per annum (All inclusive) OVERVIEW OF THE ORGANISATION: The NMISA is a Type 3A Public Entity established in accordance with the Measurement Unit and Measurement Standards Act, No. 18 of 2006 (the Act). The NMISA is mandated by the Act to provide for the use of the international system of units (the SI) and other measurement units in South Africa, to maintain national measurement standards (NMS) and to determine and ensure the comparability of the NMS. More information can be obtained from www.nmisa.org THE POSITION: A vacancy exists for an experienced Senior Scientist in the Analytical Laboratory of the Regional Reference Institute (RRI), Applied Metrology Division, NMISA, to establish the technical capabilities of the section, research, develop, validate analytical methods, and disseminate analytical traceability to industry, government laboratories and academia, thereby supporting South African trade.
MAJOR CHALLENGES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Research and development of new reference measurement techniques for RRI to expand the measurement capability to provide services not previously available from NMISA.
• Participate in national technical committee activities (SANAS assessments and technical standard committees, etc.), thereby contributing to knowledge transfer to industry. • Provide consultation services to South Africa and internationally. The ideal candidate will be an analytical thinker, fast learner, who is persistent, accountable, persuasive, and attentive to detail, acts with integrity, and can lead research projects and take on responsibilities and challenges.
