CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S EMPLOYMENT TERM: Five - Year Fixed Term Contract The role reports directly: Chairperson of the of the National Heritage Council The National Heritage Council in Pretoria has an opportunity at a senior level for a period of a 5 year fixed- term contract. The CEO is expected to provide strategic direction and leadership in the implementation of the NHC strategies and business plans to ensure efficient and effective delivery of the overall strategic objectives. The NHC seeks to engage a strong leader who will maintain and improve financial value creation of the NHC. With proven leadership experience in the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will be expected to build and maintain sound relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in line with the Batho Pele principles, Implementation of Financial and Operational Controls (Including Governance, PFMA & Compliance), Develop and implement NHC policies and regulatory framework, Develop and Implement robust organisational processes to achieve organisational goals, change management and transformation, develop high performing strategic human resources and not limited to; is the development the intellectual capacity of the organisation. The CEO will be expected to ensure that the NHC complies with all legislative prescripts. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: • The CEO will be responsible for overseeing the planning, development and execution of the NHC’s Strategy and overall management and leadership of the organisation • Building and promoting a sustained and attractive image of the entity • Articulate the plans (short, medium, and long term) to achieve the strategy and objectives of the entity • Identify key challenges facing the entity and design appropriate strategies and interventions to achieve the entity’s goals • Champion the National Heritage Council’s Culture and Values through empowered leadership and active culture custodianship • Build strategic and management capacity to enable achievement of the NHC business plan • Drive the new business development and innovation initiatives of the organisation • Establish and manage stakeholder networks • Ensure that risk management strategies are in place and compliance is effectively managed • Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place to mitigate strategic risks of the entity • Ensure sound corporate governance principles • Ensure that the entity is adequately capitalised • Ensure effective and efficient management of entity’s resources • Provide assurance to the Shareholder (Department of Sport, Arts & Culture) and Council. Ensure financial soundness of the entity • Provide leadership and define reporting structures for the entity • Attract, develop and retain key talented management staff • Provide strategic support to the Executive team and inspire them to deliver key performance • Take leadership role in establishing and/or developing the NHC’s culture and values • Ensure that the stakeholders are managed effectively and their feedback and suggestions are incorporated into business strategies where possible • Developing a wide range of relationships and networks with local stakeholders/ Communities (South Africa) within AU, UNESCO and BRICS and position the NHC as a well-known and credible organisation. EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS. • This top executive position calls for a highly skilled individual who has an NQF Level 9 in Heritage Studies/ Social Sciences with minimum 10 years of management experience and 8 years’ relevant work experience at a strategic level • 3 to 5 years’ experience at an Executive level is essential. Strong knowledge of the heritage sector including relevant policy and legislative frameworks is non-negotiable • Excellent negotiation, marketing, people management and public relations skills.
