Key Performance Areas: In addition to the formal training consisting of five (5) compulsory learning unit standards with a total of 46 credits per learner of which two (2) modules of them are non-credits bearing; but are compulsory for all to be completed. The training programme is expected to run for a period of six (06) months duration inclusive of notional hours consisting of contact classes intended to cover both the practical training and preparation of Portfolio of Evidence and upon successful completion of the programme the candidates will be tasked with the following:
• Check passengers' tickets, prepaid tags and passes, either on board or as they wait to board at bus stops. • Issue spot fines to a bus operator found or suspected to have failed to issue a correct ticket a passenger for any trip on Metrobus during a scheduled service journey. • Issue spot fines to anyone who does not have the correct ticket for their journey. • Issue spot fines to a bus operator found to be complicit in adhering to the operators' protocols, rules or policies of Metrobus suspected to have failed to issue a correct ticket, swipe a tags or issue an incorrect ticket to a passengers. • Document pertinent details such as the name and address of anyone who is cited as having breached the Inspectorate functional mandate or refuses to pay a fine (driver or passenger). • Submit detailed daily reports of all inspections conducted, alleged operational transgressions including fare evasion found or not, ticketing irregularity, passenger safety or anti-social/inconsiderate behaviour under legislation. • Answer queries about fares, routes and timetables. • Help frail, elderly or disabled passengers to get on or off, or ensuring their safety in an emergency. • Enforce no-smoking policies and all related rules and standards. • Enforce COVID-19 compliance protocols. • Deal with disorder or vandalism on board, and ensuring a safe travelling environment for passengers. • Participate in special operations, in conjunction with the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), and other stakeholders to carry out enforcement and compliance on behalf of Metrobus. • Report on or advise bus staff where fares payment and or safety standards are not being met. • Provide a supervisory presence whilst participating in emergency diversion or special event duties. • Provide on-the-job training as and when required. • Attend court and other Metrobus related formal hearings as and where required 2. Inspection • Observe employees performing assigned duties to note their deportment, treatment of passengers, and adherence to company regulations and schedules. • Observe and record time required to load and unload passengers or volume of traffic on vehicle and at stops, to advise of effective routes to be utilized. • Investigate schedule delays, accidents, and complaints. • Inspect buses and company vehicles and other property for evidence of abuse, damage, and mechanical malfunction and directs repair. • Determine need for changes in service, such as additional vehicles, route changes, and revised schedules to improve service and efficiency. • Drive automobile along route to detect conditions hazardous to equipment and passengers and negotiates with local governments to eliminate hazards.
