JOHANNESBURG CITY PARKS BIO AQUATIC SPECIALIST X 1 (PERMANENT) Salary: R784, 216. 86 – R940, 031. 66 per annum JOB PURPOSE: Manages and Conserves Watercourse (Rivers, Dams, Lakes, Pans, Canals, Ponds, etc.) Wetlands and general Aquatic diversity areas, both flora and fauna, with the specific objective of conserving and protecting biodiversity. JOB REQUIREMENTS: B Sc Degree in Environmental Sciences or Natural Sciences/Conservation Management • Training in identification of Alien Invasive plants • 3 years Management experience in Natural Sciences/ Conservation/ Environmental Management. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: Ensures preservation and management of aquatic diversity – Ensures the scientific management and enhancement of aquatic biodiversity relating to water bodies, streams and wetlands • Facilitates and maintains biodiversity of areas bearing water – conducting biomonitoring, monitor water and sediment quality – monitoring fish and other macro invertebrates health – conducting general biodiversity assessments, toxicity assessments, and specialized assessment • Maintains River trails, wetlands and watercourses within the City of Johannesburg (COJ) • Directs maintenance and rehabilitation plans – identifies wetlands to be rehabilitated with stakeholders (e.g. SANBI, Consultants, EISD, etc.) • Develops partnerships and stakeholders in the implementation of the plan (WfW, GDARD, CoJ, JW, JRA, etc. • Executes supervisory responsibilities • Management own performance and team performance • Communicates appropriately with public • Develop/Reviews policies and adheres to SHEQ standards and security.
