Directs Education Initiatives and operations: • Manages and develops strategic and operational policies, projects and programmes with regards the different products and services of the environmental education function in conjunction with the Environmental Education Manager in Environmental Conservation • Develops medium to long term objectives and strategies for the implementation of Environmental Education programmes • Manages the education initiatives by: - Oversees and directing strategies for effective community participation in natural environmental related programmes and initiatives. - Oversees and manages the implementation of education and awareness initiatives amongst various stakeholders. Oversees the operations of Events and Venue Hire: • Oversees development, implementation and adherence to policies and procedures governing the maintenance of Zoo facilities • Ensures accurate reporting of income generated from venues and events • Ensures good internal communications particularly across functions at the zoo to ensure buy in and support for any visitor experience initiatives • Participates in public relations activities and media liaison (demonstration, newspaper articles, TV interviews and volunteers) as required. Manages budget and reporting of Department: • Monitors targets of income generation and coordinates with Communications to implement relevant marketing intervention to boost performance - Oversees budget expenditure of entire department and ensures all activity is completed on time and within budget • Evaluates all education activities to demonstrate return on investment • Compiles, analyses and distributes relevant financial and statistical information. Executes managerial responsibilities: • Manages the HR elements of the staff within the department (leave management, time and attendance, performance, grievance and disciplinary management) • Ensures internal controls, processes, procedures and quality standards am adhered to by the staff. Optimises individual and team performance: • Contributes to team effectiveness and team cohesion • Prepares for, and participates in, regular performance reviews (quarterly or as determined by the organisation) • Ensure repartees are meeting expected targets. Manages own performance and development: • Discusses deliverables, measures and targets with superior • Actively participates and manages own performance levels by participating in regular one-on-one meetings with superior to discuss progress of individual areas of accountability • Actively seeks coaching or advice when necessary • Attends agreed courses, professional development to achieve optimal job performance and career goals. Manages expectations of internal and external stakeholders: • Ensures that stakeholders' expectations are understood and managed through effective communication (written and/or oral) • Builds and maintains relationships with stakeholders • Recognises the impact of engaging with stakeholders at the right level • Communicates appropriate information and status updates/reports to relevant stakeholders. Develops/ reviews policies and adheres to SHEQ standards and security monitoring: • Develops/ reviews SOPs for the Department • implements and monitors JCPZ safety, health, environmental and security policies and procedures • Ensures Department is in line with the SHEQ policies and procedures of JCPZ • Implements identified risk mitigation measures • Ensures compliance of Department through policy and procedure adherence.
