DEPUTY DIRECTOR: COMMUNICATIONS, RESEARCH AND CAPACITY (12-MONTHS CONTRACT) CHIEF DIRECTORATE: Disaster Management and Rescue Support Services Salary: 733 257.00 per annum (all-inclusive package) • Centre: Midrand • Refs/004806 Requirements: Matric plus NQF Level 7 in Public Relations/Communications/Journalism/Customer Service or relevant qualification, coupled by a minimum of 3-5 years' relevant experience, exposure to media, preferably at the SABC. The following Certificates will serve as an added advantage: Qualification related to climate change, especially N3 in Meteorological Instrument Technology, or specialised course Meteorological Instrument Technology, preferably within media electronics and studio management. Competencies: Excellent Strategic capability, Leadership skills, Good planning and organisational skills, Good negotiation and conflict management skills, Client orientated & Customer focus, Programme and project management, Policy analysis and development, Communication skills, Change Management, Monitoring and evaluation technical skills and proven leadership skills. A valid driver's licence. Duties: Communicate strategy of the Provincial Disaster Management Centre in the context that guides and directs best practice; Integrate and align the strategy in the environment of service delivery; Do research, production, broadcast and presentation to different media platforms including television channels; Educates, entertains viewers on climate change and disasters; Develop operation targets in support of tactical delivery plans and organisation strategy objectives in partnership with stakeholders; Communicate early warning for the Provincial Disaster Management Centre; Conduct media briefing for the impending disasters; Brand management and emergency services and disaster management campaigns; Develop annual operating plans to meet established annual objectives, organise and prioritise tasks and work processes; Monitor and maintain effectiveness of stakeholder management, communications, brand management and campaigns and activities; Negotiate and communicate with relevant practitioners, organisations, associations and institutes regarding applicable rules and regulations, whilst building positive relationships; Promote cooperation between academic, scientific and research entities and networks and the private sector to develop innovative approaches and services to help reduce risk. Liaise with the Office of the Premier communication team; build positive relationship with the communities. Accompany department executive managers on the overseas travel including MEC's office.
