COUNCIL ON HIGHER EDUCATION (CHE) Chief Executive Officer (5-year fixed term contract) A unique opportunity to make a difference The South African Council on Higher Education (CHE) is an independent statutory body established by the Higher Education Act (No. 101 of 1997).As the Quality Council for Higher Education in terms of the National Qualifications Act ( No 67 of 2008) the CHE advises the Minister of Higher Education and Training (now the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation) on all higher education issues and is responsible for quality assurance and quality promotion through the Higher Education Quality Committee. The CHE seeks to appoint a dynamic, experienced, and visionary CEO to lead the CHE in discharging its mandate to contribute to the transformation of the higher education system, including the assurance and enhancement of quality in higher education in South Africa. • Working with colleagues in the higher education, science, and innovation domain to facilitate projects and processes that will lead to greater synergies and collaborations between the two components of the Departments of Higher Education and Training, and Science and • Ensuring full compliance with all the relevant legislation and regulations relating to a public The successful applicant will have: • A Doctoral • Substantial academic credentials and stature in the higher education • Minimum of eight years of work experience in the higher education sector and related Minimum of five years seniorleadership and management experience in the higher education sector. • Extensive experience in teaching and management in higher education and a keen insight into the key issues in higher education, based on a thorough understanding of the higher education landscape, nationally and • The strategic competence and ability to take responsibility for the planning, execution and monitoring of new and existing functions and • The passion, intellect, and strategic acumen to lead and stimulate public debate on higher • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with a collaborative work style and excellent interpersonal • Persuasive presentation and communication skills and the credibility to work with and influence key stakeholders in higher education and • Well-established networks with higher education institutions and related entities, both at national and international Remuneration: A competitive remuneration package commensurate with experience and aligned to Level 16 in the Public Services and Administration sector will be offered.
